Yes, I love to knit. Love the process. Love to handle the yarn, to watch the project grow stitch by stitch… But it’s also a real thrill to be the lucky recipient of knitwear made by someone else. I present, for your oohing and ahhing pleasure, two recent knitwear gifts I received.
From Billy’s wonderful cousin Sarah (and my cousin now too. Great side benefit from marrying Billy is that I’m now related to her), these tiger stripe baby socks for the Kiddo-in-Progress:
And from Debi, a lovely lace scarf. I was the lucky winner of this beauty in the Give a Little giveaways. Sadie really loves it, but I’m keeping it for myself.
And speaking of the Give a Little prizes: Melanie, your socks are nearly done. Sorry for the delay! I donated a pair of handknit socks, custom knit for the winner, to the Give a Little drive, and Melanie was the winner. Funny, and fitting, that of all the hundreds of participants in that fundraiser Melanie should be the one I ended up knitting for. Why? Not only are we both currently knocked up, but we went to college together and lost touch after school only to reconnect via the knitting blogs all these years later. (Okay…ten years and change. That’s not so many.) So I get to knit socks for someone I know, and can think fond thoughts of dorm hijinks as I knit them. Small world, hunh?
OMG, those socks are SO FREAKIN’ CUTE!!! How wonderful. And what a strange coincidence about you and Melanie and the knits and the internets!!! Awesome. I didn’t get to say, “Cute hat!” the other day. But it is, and you are cuter.

So cool about your relationship to the GAL winner – and lucky you, that scarf is so so so pretty! And your little one will be so spiffy in those adorable tiger socks. 🙂

Thank you for your participation in GAL! It’s wonderful that you received a hand knit as you gave one, too. Life is full of wonderful happenings like that;-)

That’s a nifty story. I’ve been scouring the internet trying to find an old university pal (was the best woman at my wedding). Maybe she’ll find my blog.

Isn’t it cool how blogging makes our world smaller? That’s great about you and Melanie.

Man, 10 years is A LOT. I think it’s amazing that we’ve reconnected this way and both at similar stages in our lives…so random and cool. The socks are just icing on the cake – I can’t wait!!! You’re awesome.
PS – love the lana cap too…was away this weekend and missed that post. I think your hair is a lovely color, don’t fret about it. It still looks fantastic.

Love the baby socks! (Seeing them also reminded me that I have promised to send something for the kid-in-progress, too. Better get going!) I love randomly getting reconnected with old friends. I wish it happened more often. I think you should teach Sadie to knit. Then she could make her own shawls instead of trying to steal yours.

I need to start making bitty socks with all my leftover sock yarn. So cute. So so cute.

I really think Sadie should have a lace something-or-other of her own. She looks positively regal in it.

those are adorable, you are one lucky woman!!

Wow, what a great story! It’s so interesting that the two of you are in such similar places in your respective lives. Very cool! Love the scarf, btw, and those wee socks are just too sweet.

Sadie looks so pretty in it, you’d hardly know she’s nearly 100% evil. Libélula’s like that too. Tricky lil buggers.
