My friend Michael Deibert, journalist and author of Notes from the Last Testament: The Struggle for Haiti, has a new blog. Please do check it out.
Also, Michael will be appearing on the Leonard Lopate show Thursday, August 24th, at noon EST on WNYC. No need to actually be in New York to hear the show. You can listen online. Access to the live feed is on the homepage of our most wonderful local public radio station. I’ve kind of got a thing for Leonard Lopate, so I’m very excited that Michael will be on the show. He says he’ll open the segment by telling Leonard I love him, but I suspect he’s just saying that to make sure I tune in. (Truth be told, Brian Lehrer is my true public radio love. Mostly because Ira Glass doesn’t live in New York.)
Later: Okay…so apparently Ira Glass now lives in New York. Sorry, Brian Lehrer.)
But Ira Glass DOES live in new york! The show moved when they got the Showtime deal.

I was going to say, WHAT?!? Ira Glass doesn’t live in New York? How is that possible? The world has gone mad!
But the first commenter says he does.
I feel so much better.

Ira Glass moved his show to NYC, and Chicago let out a collective sigh of disappointment. Of course, being a defector myself, my indignation is totally unfounded.

thanks for the news about this blog. i wasn’t familiar with michael’s work but am going to check out his book now… i finished my master’s in latin american studies last year & a close friend from that program is now working on her poly sci doctorate, focusing on the rule of law in haiti… this will be great to pass on to her.

Deibert’s book is fiction poising as history. I hope it’s a call-in show.

Jean-Claude Bajeux, the noted Haitian teacher, scholar, former cabinet minister and director of the Ecumenical Center for Human Rights ,would appear to disagree with JH and speaks very highly of Deibert’s book:
