Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you…

…my face. Just for today only folks!

I had an idea for a hat stuck in my head yesterday (the idea was stuck, not the hat, dear Grammar Avengers), so when I got home yesterday evening I started noodling around with two circs and some double-stranded Cascade 220 and ended up with the layer cake you see there on my head.

I think it’s cute, and it’s definitely cozy, but not quite what I had in mind. I think to achieve the hat I was imagining, I’m going to have to sacrifice the warmth of double-stranded worsted for the less bulky, cleaner look of single worsted, or maybe even sportweight. I’ll have to play around a bit. This one is so roomy that I think I might be able to get away with felting it lightly. I just might toss it into the washer later today and see what happens.

  1. Hello cuteness! I thought I’d take a peek at the knitting, and there you are!! I like the hat, too. It looks very cute on you – don’t sacrifice it to the spin cycle!
Grumpy and I also avoided a grad school halloween party which prominently featured Beer Pong. If you don’t know what it is, you don’t really wanna.
Off to do an in class presentation. sigh. Grad school is tough on my introverted self.

  2. Dude, how cute are you? And that hat is awesome! I think the felting might be a good idea, just ’cause it’ll make the texture even more interesting…. but it’s great as it is. And you made it all up yourself! I love it.

  3. How cool! Even if it’s not what you had in mind, that’s a great noggin-topper.

And it’s nice to finally have a face to put with the voice. Er, text. You know what I mean. 🙂

  5. Well hello, Cari! Nice to see you! 🙂 And I’m loving that layer-cake hat. I agree with Rachael — a light felting could be interesting. But it also looks cozy as is, and not too too big. Anyway, I’m lost without a pattern — nice work, creative lady!

  6. you crack me up – somewhat similar to hat i made from rowan polar last year with purl/garter ribs occasionally – why not just one strand of a thicker yarn that will get you somewhere between one strand of worsted and two strands of worsted
