This is why you should love Nick

and go buy his music. He just sent a note to all of us on that alleged guest list the other night. When they heard about the $20 at the door fiasco, he, his co-authors, the surprise musical guest (now I can fess up–it was going to be the most wonderful Bright Eyes) and everyone involved in it walked out rather than let the management try to screw their friends. I felt a bit guilty for a moment or two about not going in, because surely supporting a friend is worth $20. Big cheers for Nick and co. for not wanting to put their friends in that position. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are out on tour now. Look for them in your town. Great show, I promise.

No, this is not a commercial. This is love for a man who was a close friend back in college. We haven’t been so good at staying in touch in the intervening years, but the friends you love at eighteen will always matter. Happy Sunday, folks. Capelet pics later, I promise.

  2. Wow, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Bright Eyes! I want to move to NYC now. I love that they walked out; I like my rock stars with integrity! And we wanna see the c-a-p-e-l-e-t!

  3. If you knew Nick from the YYYs in college, does that mean you went to Bard? I went there for my freshman and sophomore years, and during my first year I knew of Nick as the “cute one” from Boba Fett (the most popular band at school at that time), though in my usual fashion I responded to all the adulation I saw aimed at them rather perversely and wouldn’t admit to liking them or thinking any of them were cute, though I saw them live a couple of times and thought they were fairly good, actually they were GREAT compared to the other student bands at the time. By the time I was a sophomore, most of the band was out of school and they only played a couple more times around town (word was they had moved to NYC to get famous). When I found out one of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs was that guy from Boba Fett, you could have knocked me over with a feather. I wonder what happened to the rest of them.
