Advanced relocation skills for yarn whores

Okay…so we’re getting down to the wire. The movers come on Friday morning to cart away everything that’s going into storage. I have to decide what knitting stays with me and what gets put away for (hopefully no more than) a month. Of course, to complicate matters I’ve already bought some new yarn. I wish I could say that it just followed me home, but really I found it on eBay. I couldn’t resist it. I’m sure you’ll be shocked by the color choices. So not me, hunh? 🙂 If I’m not careful, I’ll end up with a wardrobe consisting entirely of red, orange and pink.

I’m having it shipped to my mother’s house. I’m afraid it will get lost between old and new addresses, otherwise. (Don’t worry, Mom, your holiday gift is not a box of candy-colored yarn.)

As far as what to keep with me…I think I’ve almost got it narrowed down. The WIPs will all go with me. That means: my mom’s sweater, Billy’s nephew’s sweater, Season, the second Inca Alpaca glove, a pair of socks and a scarf I have going, and…Oh yeah. Rosedale United. Yep. I started a new project yesterday. I had SO much free time that I cast on for Rosedale. Okay, so it means I’m editing like crazy today and haven’t even started packing the stuff I want to pack myself (the movers will do most of the packing but I want to pack my own financial papers, etc)… but LOOK! Half a lovely Kureyon sleeve! It was worth crunching my already crunched schedule!

I’ve changed the colorway, obviously. I’m really looking forward to getting to that intarsia rectangle. Billy’s referring to it as the control panel.

So where was I? Right…what I’m bringing. (Fascinating, isn’t it? Maybe after this we can all stare at my navel for a while! Or look at my vacation slides?) So besides the WIPs I’m trying to decide what future projects to bring along. I’m going to bring four pairs of socks’ worth of Koigu and Lorna’s Laces because that doesn’t take much room. But besides that my choices are: this Debbie Bliss ballerina sweater in black cashmerino, the Siobhan sweater in the pictured colorway, the Monk’s Satchel from Folk Bags, and the corset pullover from the spring Interweave. I think I only want to bring two of these four. This is already the shortlist culled from way too many potential projects, by the way. Any votes? I have the yarn for all of them, so they’ve got equal weight in terms of that… Help! Eek!

And then there’s the question of spare stash for when inspiration strikes and I want to noodle around with some knitted thing that’s popped into my head… Sigh. Oh yeah, and the rest of the holiday gifts. This should be easier than it is.

  1. Wow!!

    1. Whatcha gonna do with the candy-colored Noro?

    2. Love the Rosedale sleeve. See, you don’t have to worry about losing your black wardrobe.

    3. I think you should take one rather complex project to keep your knitting challenging and one non-clothing project for more variety in choices. So I vote for Siohban (which I really think you should start NOW) and the Monk’s satchel.

    4. (I started a new sweater too. Well, I swatched for one.)

  2. I LOVE the ballerina sweater from Debbie Bliss but will need to resize the pattern. If you decide to do the pattern, I may holler with some questions for you…
    Great blog!

  5. Are you kidding? This is nothing like navel-staring (but then again, I LIKE other people’s vacation slides). This is all about yarn and moving and new and old projects…. sigh…. so much loveliness to think about. I’m with Em – definitely the Siohban. How gorgeous! Loving your Kureyon colorways, too, girl. Both of ’em.

  6. Ack! You’ve started Rosedale United! OK, OK, I’ll order some Kureyon for real — I want to make one, too! What’s all the pretty pink Noro for? Surprisingly (!), I agree that you should bring Siobhan. You already have the yarn for all those things? Holy crap…

  7. I just got some Kureyon #115 last night on Ebay to start Rosedale too. Can’t wait to start that.

  8. Is that colorway 116 in the kureyon for rosedale? I think that’s the one I want as well 🙂 I’ll watch to see how yours turns out!
