Second childhood…or am I up to three by now?
I found a toy from my childhood on eBay the other night, bid on it on a whim, and accidentally won it. The first time I had it, at age seven or so, it was also secondhand–my mom was a whiz at finding great toys at garage sales. Take a look!
It’ll come in handy if I ever need to whip up an army’s worth of st st tubes. Heh. Actually, Andrea had the brilliant idea to use it to quickly make felting material. That is, crank out some tubes, crochet steek ’em, slice em open and felt em to make handy felt strips. A lovely idea, I think. Anyway, I’ll definitely have fun playing with this baby.
I cast on for the Kyoto sash, and will post pics later today or tomorrow. I changed the pattern a bit to be more flattering to me. The sash is supposed to be knit in the round, but I’m knitting two flat pieces instead, which I won’t seam on the sides, so there’ll be nice slits on the side and the overall look will be more gi than kimono. Fitting, since I’m a martial artist (you did know that, right?) and also a smoother, drapier garment. Since I’ll be wearing it over another top, like a camisole or something, I think it’ll work. That’s the theory, anyway. We’ll see how it actually pans out when I have it finished.
I was thinking of one of those little square potholder making things. I guess those are looms though. Does the knitting machine make a tube big enough to be a sock?

I think that thing is a scream and the felting idea is great. I might have to look on ebay for one.

Cari, may I please play with your new knitting toy? Please? I’ll be your best friend…
I love the idea you have for the Kyoto sash.

That knitting machine rocks! Hello, legwarmers!
I love your idea for Kyoto, leaving the sides of the sash open. Show us soon, OK?

Oh, man, that was my favorite toy as a kid–that, and Sprirograph. I wish I had my bright yellow little knitting machine back…I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

Oh, my gosh. I had one of those when I was a child.
I think I still have the first (and only finished, sigh) project I made on it – a toy snake made of brown variegated yarn.
I remember supposedly there was a way to make the thing knit a flat piece, but I was never patient enough to try it.
