As a special treat, actual knitting content!
Yeah, okay, so my knitting has languished a bit lately. You may have noticed. I did warn you at the beginning of the semester, though, that this would most likely be a period of mindless knitting when I managed to squeeze any knitting in at all. So here’s some mindless knitting for you.
I had to read two books today for Ernesto’s class tomorrow. Don’t be too impressed yet. It’s 8pm and I’ve only just finished the first one a little while ago. A lot of work, yes, but the perfect chance for mindless knitting. I broke out the long-neglected second sleeve of the candy-colored Rosedale, and finished it just as I reached the last few pages of the book. (Dreaming in Cuban. It’s okay. I enjoy really lyrical prose and still found this a bit heavy-handed. Also, I feel like I’ve read this story, or ones awfully close to it, many times before. And the in-laws driving her crazy until the hubby commits her storyline? See Trevor’s Reading Turgenev if you really want to see that one pulled off well.)
Here are the two Rosedale sleeves.
I’d cast on for the body while I read the second book (Family Ties) but I can’t find the rest of the yarn. The contents of my studio are all crammed into Billy’s office for the ceiling replacement and we haven’t had time to clean up all the plaster dust, paint, and move me back in there. The result? Seriously impaired access to the yarn stash. Wish I’d thought to keep the project-specific stuff at hand. Ah well.
Great sleeves! I like that the stripes don’t match. Plus the colours match your blog perfectly, darling.
When you knit and read, how do you keep the book open?

Oh! Cristina Garcia was my thesis advisor for my MFA! I will agree with you about the heavy-handedness, however. She was a better teacher, I swear.

The Rosedale sleeves look amazing! I love that Alison noticed the color-compatibility with your blog. I also love that we’re the first three commenters. GAWK!

The only way I can read a book and knit at the same time is with an Audiobook!

Great Rosedale sleeves! I made it in #92, more primary colors. I also am too anal and made my sleeves match, except for the contraxt in the corrugated ribbing. Did you do the corrugated stuff? It is hard to tell in the photo. I’m not sure I like it (on mine). I also had trouble with tension when I did it back and forth-for the body. I’ll wait to see if you have the same exxperience-please post your eexperience. thanks.

Yummy colors!! Like those gi-normous lollipops they sell on the boardwalk.
Do tell how you read and knit at the same time. Because I’m thisclose to whipping out the Lillian Vernon catalog to find one of those book-holder-opener-thingies.
