They call me da Brooklyn Sock Mafia
They do. They really do. I have no explanation for it. (I think Iris started it.)
I’m half a sock away from a finished pair for the secret sock swap thingy. I’m using Lorna’s Laces in the Clay colorway. As can happen with Lorna’s, the colors that looked beautiful and complimentary and elegant in the skein went muddy up against each other when I started knitting and the sweet pink took on alarming fleshtones when up against the mustard yellow.
That was how I felt halfway through the heel flap of the first sock. Somewhere around the toe decreases, the colors started to grow on me and now I really like it again. When you see the whole sock, the pink re-asserts itself. What do you think?
I think they’re rather pretty now. I’m worried that the recipient won’t like them, though, and I want her to love them. If she doesn’t, maybe I’ll knit her a second pair from the sock stash.
Oh yeah–if you and I are ever in a yarn shop together, and you see me considering buying some sock yarn, please remind me of this:
I love, love, love knitting socks. I love wearing knitted socks. Love it. After these secret socks are done (the recipient is a secret, not the socks), I feel a serious sock-knitting binge coming on. Maybe starting with that purple Fleece Artist that the lovely Steph sent me? Or the Lorna’s Motherlode? Or…
cari,
the socks are beautiful; your secret sock pal will love them.
holy sock stash. that looks so enticing, and i refuse to feel any guilt over my measly stash!
i have a couple skeins of lorna’s laces waiting to be used when i learn how to make socks with two circs–sometime after the new year i think.
so much yarn…so little time!!!!

Lordy, that is some sock stash. It looks lovely from the aerial view though, kind of like a sock pizza (ewww!). I like the pink socks, anyway.

Swooooooooooooooon and drool.
In this instance I’m liking the stash better than the table. Sock binge? I’m in! I need to get more sock yarn, I only have yarn for about 8 pairs lined up. Gotta keep up with Brooklyn. Wow, what an excuse to get more yarn.
My monitor must be broken. I see that sock as orange.

The socks are different and I really like them but I usually like yarns that aren’t the ‘norm’. Your sock yarn is nothing compared with some knitters. Enjoy knitting that beautiful bunch of color!

That is swirly, sockly goodness. And it looks orange on my monitor, which can never be bad.

I’m completely envious of your sock stash! LOVE it!

Holy moly, that is one sock stash you got going on there! And the socks are gorgeous! They look like orange sherbet to me. Mmmmmm.
Posted by: Mariko
The socks look great but not as good as that sock yarn stash looks to me 🙂 I just want to pet all that sockie goodness.
Posted by: Kate
Not fair! I wish I could get sock yarn SOMEWHERE! I’ll just sit here and be jealous.
Posted by: kate
Omigod, swirling pooling! For those with variegated issues like me it is quite alarming. But with the garish colors, it’s almost so awful that you gotta love it! Plus, who wouldn’t love handknitted socks that they didn’t have to handknit themselves? I’m not gonna look a gift sock in the mouth. ;0)

Now I’m completely determined to learn how to knit socks. My fave LYS doesn’t seem to have that great a selection in sock yarn, so I may have to try the net. Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow, that is some stash of sock yarn! It might even rival my own (does that make me the Dallas Sock Mafia?) . . . though I don’t have nearly as much Lorna’s.
Sock on!

Oh my God. I want that table of yarn. I want to just knock it over and dump it all into my backpack while you’re not looking. But especially I want to know – What is that green one at 12:05?
I’ve noticed the same thing with Lorna’s colors. A bit like Noro colors, they often seem to have one “off” color that doesn’t work. I’m using camoflauge (sp?) right now, and the rust brown is so alarming next to the deep green.

I’ve gotten really hooked on knitting socks recently and my sock stash really shows it too.

Point #1: Would reminding you of your Monster Sock Stash do anything to deter you from adding to it? Or are you banking on the fact that shopping with knitters means never having to say “but I already have so much…”?
Point #2: The Lorna’s socks at 6:00, with the bright pinks and oranges and purples, so clearly was meant to go with your Candy-Colored Rosie, that you should make them next. Unless you’re tired of knitting with pink and orange. (WHAAAAA?)
Point #3: You know, my Clapotis is made from the Motherlode colorway.
Point #4: More of a question, really: does Koigu ever feel neglected? Maybe you should return to Koigu for a pair.

You stock Lornas?? Why didn’t you say you were opening a Lorna’s outlet! I thought I had a lot of Lorna’s tucked away, but you beat me hands down. I could just look at this picture ALL day.
Posted by: Alison
What a stash!
Clearly, you are insane. Yet, you are somehow suddenly my hero. I wish I were so ambitious. I only THINK about knitting socks.
And your secret socks…perfect. Someone is going to be very happy with them.

love the stock stash. very impressive! i’ve just given lots of mine away!! 🙂

DEAR GOD WOMAN – GET THEE TO A KNITTERY.
I have not seen such an impressive stash of sock yarn outside of a store. Impressive, most impressive.

It warn’t me. I didn’t start it. I’m just another victim….
The green skeins at the top right? I must have them. NOW. I’ll be over in 10 minutes. Have’em wrapped up for me, okay?
I’m serious.

Impressive, indeed! Swoon, drool. I love it all, but that deep red at two o’clock is supergorgeous.
And don’t be silly — the recipient of those socks will love them.
AND hey, guess what? I have a skein of purple Fleece Artist TOO!
Posted by: alison
Sorry. I just drooled ALL over your sock stash.
Not only am I envious of the lucious fibers pictured, but envious of your sock making CAPABILITIES darn it! (this from a woman who has started many socks in her knitting history but has yet to WEAR a pair of them..)
Thanks for the inspiration and I am sure the recipient will love them 🙂

Hmmmm…. not sure how to read that one comment (you know, the one that mattered, the one you were angling for). I think it’ll be all right. If not, make her another pair and send those to ME!

And that sock yarn stash is INCREDIBLE. since I just finished my first pair, I’ve been secretly stocking up through ebay auctions…don’t tell my boyfriend. 🙂

I am really thinking that you need more sock yarn. For example is that only 3 colorways if koigu? didn’t you know that koigu gets lonely without more of its kind aroung for moral support?
love your socks, latifa

wow…it’s amazing seeing all that sock yarn and the FOs! I am wondering if wool socks can wicker away perspiration in our hot and humid tropical Singapore? that’s the only thought holding me back from knitting a pair!
