My husband is rolling his eyes
…but you KNEW I’d find a way to wear handknit socks comfortably in summer, right? Okay, so they’re not so much socks as footwear for two-toed sloths. (My thumb toes are really pleased to finally have their own little sock compartment.) But still… Sock yarn! And I smile every time I look down at my feet, so that’s gotta count for something.
You can find the free pattern here. It’s a great use (well, I think it’s great) for leftover sock yarn and takes all of an hour or so to knit up the pair. Come on. You know you want to. Between-the-toe flip-flop blisters banished forever!
Added later following multiple queries: The tattoo on my leg says, “Each night Tansy would practice drowning.” It’s the first line of my novel, in my handwriting. It was my way of making a commitment to the book before I sent it out into the world. No matter what happens with it now, good or bad, it’s part of me.
*giggle-giggle*!

Too damned cute! I’m going to make these — no question!

interesting…but what about the sock tan?

Cute! And a cool angle to view the tattoo from…
Posted by: Cassie
Personally, I’m enamored with the green nail polish to match the flip flop protectors…

Thanks for the link to the little summmer footie thingies. i have no desire to knit socks but I like these little things! jane

I am so passing on that. Seeing as I’m passing on the flip-flop thing.

That looks fantabulous !
I’m almost done with my franken-geisha-socks, too. I keep forgetting to bring it home from work!! Can’t wait for my jolly debut 😉

What _does_ your leg say? The things my eyes and brain are coming up with are like the end results of the telephone game they make you play in grade school to teach you gossiping is wrong, wong, dong.
I dig that summery colourway. Very life cycle of the mango.

Awesome on all accounts – love the flops, love the socks & love the tatoo. If I ever write anything cool I am stealing your idea. 🙂
Posted by: stephanie
that’s serious cuteness there! gotta make some.
Posted by: laura y
These are cute and look really good with your nail polish. And thanks for telling about your tattoo, I’d already planned to ask about it too!
Posted by: Jaime
If ever there was doubt in anyones mind that you are magnificent, you just squashed them with this. Everything about this post is chic, including your husband rolling his eyes. And the tattoo – well, my breathe just caught because that, my dear, is exactly why tatoos were invented.
A little clap of applause, if you please….

Love the color. And those shoes are kinda cute, too.

LOVE the half-socks (or maybe they are third-socks…) and your tattoo. now i’m curious to read the novel 😉 are you still working on it? someday you must enlighten us all to your literary deviations!
Posted by: gleek
If you asked every knitblogger in the whole entire world to take a picture of their feet and leg, I’m putting good money that no-one can beat you for originality.
😉
Posted by: claudia
i love it! i also want to know what your leg says.
Posted by: lynette
So cute! And such adorable flip-flops. I love the ankle strap. Your husband can roll his eyes all he wants: you know we’ll be an appreciative audience.
Posted by: regina
awesome line you wrote there. 🙂
Posted by: carolyn
Very cool – socks and tattoo, alike. Did you use the Regia stretch like the pattern recommends? Or just plain ole sock yarn? Enquiring minds want to know!

i am SO making those. I just found a pair of Gizehs on sale at theshoeplanet.com and will need them to help me break in the thong part.
i wonder what i can find to knit them in, though — fixation would be too thick. maybe some boring fine cotton? hrm. the challenge begins!
Posted by: amy/squib
Omg, I am casting on right now for some of those cute cute thingies!!!
Your tattoo looks great!!

Your feet are adorable. (Cross-border Daffy!) Thanks for linking to the pattern.

those are FABULOUS. thanks for the link! definitely part of the stash-busting, now. (^_^) oh, i’m going to definitely start your vine scarf. what a great design! i’ll keep you posted on my progress.

Another one of those patterns I didn’t like the pattern picture of, but looks awesome in actual use. Very nice!

Ooo, that is such a wonderful thing to do. A perfect tat.
The little flip-flip sock is a hoot. It’s just the thing for summer!

Hi!
Have been reading your blogging a while from Oslo, Norway. I like your socks. I would like some, but would have to buy toe-flip-flops to have any use for them. (And so maybe that’s what I’ll have to do..)
what I wanted to comment was your tattoo. I like the purpose of it! I should do the same once I have a first sentence. If only I wasn’t so reluctant to tattooing my body.
Posted by: Kathrine
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THEM !!!! What a great idea.
BTW, I LOVE your tattoo! It’s so cool except, when you write your next novel, where will that first line go??? (tee hee). You have a great tattoo artist to get your handwriting down so well.
Posted by: knittingnurse
Your tattoo is awesome. I’m not a tat person, have never been the least inclined to get one and generally not too impressed with those I see on other people. But I LOVE when someone has one like yours that’s so personal, so meaningful.

gorgeous. polish, socks, shoes, tatoo, gorgeous
Posted by: anna
Dude. That is messed up. Seriously.
Posted by: Lala
Well, and there I was feeling all sorry for myself because EVERY SINGLE SUMMER SHOE IN THIS TOWN sits between the toes and I have very ticklish and sensitive toe cleavage. Maybe this is the solution.
And very sneaky with the tattoo and quote, teasing those of us who are waiting (yes, a little impatiently) for your book. How’s that going, by the way?
Posted by: karen
i love the shoes and i love the mini socks. as someone who always gets flip flop blisters, i think you should market these! (or teach me how to make a pair for myself. although that would involve teaching me how to knit. oh dear.)
Posted by: rebecca
So cute! I love your tatoo. I would like to get one someday, but I want it to be meaningful like yours. And I’m scared. Did it hurt terribly? I’m such a wimp.

Love the socklets, and I’m impressed by your commitment to your novel. You are going to post updates to your blog about your progress on it too, aren’t you? Now that you’ve got us all interested & such. A great teaser intro. ;o)
Good luck with the knitting and the novelizing!

Oh, those are too cute. Or two cute. Either way.
Hm, maybe I’ll do a pair to finally get into sock knitting.

I need a little pair like that for the sandals that keep chafing… Very cute!
Posted by: Anne
i have to make those! i cant wear my flipflops cuz of blisters! bless your heart!

Once again, you RULE. Your novel had best come out soon. I’ll just die – or at the very least tremble to death.

Blogger is not working in so many ways, and I couldn’t find a way to e-mail you, so I’ll just have to post this here. I didn’t know how far Dayton was from Cincinnati, either. But I checked, and it’s about 55 miles. Not bad, considering that Dayton has a California Pizza Kitchen, which I love, and Cincinnati does not. I’m not sure about the yarn shop status. I’d definitely drive that far to meet a friend in a strange land, eat some good food and do some yarn shopping. I’ll keep you posted if I get the job.

I love your tattoo, it looks beautiful. I have done that as well, been tattooed to mark a decision, a commitment to myself and something important to me. And, occasionally, as a major “note to self”. Will you show a full-on shot of that one?
…Oh yeah, there were socks. Very cute!! 🙂

I’m a little late getting in (been on vacation you know) – but wanted to say that my test for wanting to read a book that I don’t know is always the first line, and that one would totally have me at the check out counter. Of course, I planned on reading it anyway, but wanted to let you know that. Did you get Phuc to do it? Good thing you have such lovely handwriting! 😉
And the little socks and sandals – holy shit. How cute!!

OMG – I love your site. How come when I click on the pattern for the flip flop sock I get something in German. I’m desperate. Leaving for the beach Saturday morning – going with the girls – would love to knit everyone a pair!!! HELP!
Oh, and put me on the pre-order for the book too – how far along are you – I’m a newbie knitter so have only been reading these blogs for the last couple months.
I’ve been wanting to get some kind of a tatoo for a while – yours is soooooo original – such a statement of confidence in your book!

Those are FABULOUS. I want want want want want, and I can’t imagine how quick they must be.
I need them in six different colorways!
