If you need me, I’ll be in my summer office

With the AC from my office now in the bedroom window, and the bigger/better AC that we got from friends (thanks again, Quig and Jules! ) not yet installed (it’s damn big and heavy and we just haven’t gotten around to lugging it upstairs yet), my office is now too hot to work in.

No worries. I present to you, my summer office.

Quite a view, hunh? The support staff is a bit lazy, but that’s summer for you. (Note Sadie’s jail cell in the corner. That’s where she goes when she uses up too many of the office supplies or forgets to give me my phone messages. Dogs today, no work ethic.) No, I never make the bed. Never. It’s just going to get messed up again. Luckily Billy agrees. Take a last look at the white walls, too. For my birthday I’ve asked for paint on the bedroom walls. (oh yeah…and those awful miniblinds the previous owner left replaced with the rice paper shades I bought well over a year ago and haven’t gotten around to hanging yet, and my stained glass windows hung in front of those… Amazing how easy it is to shove the little projects to the side and before you know it you’ve been living with miniblinds for a year and a half.)

There’ve been some changes afoot in the knitting department. Some projects set aside due to acute lack of interest (Madli), older WIPs brought back to the forefront so that they’ll be available to be worn in the fall (Corset Pullover), more socks started, more sock yarn hoarded…

I also bought the yarn for this lovely thing from the latest VK. I am using the suggested Blue Sky Alpaca Sportweight. The stuff is luscious. I’m looking forward to the heat breaking, because right now I can’t bear to touch even this wonderful yarn. Of course I changed the colors somewhat. Can you picture me knitting with and then wearing turquoise? No. Of course you can’t. Here are the colors I’ll be using:

Valentina is going to make it too, and will also be changing the colors. She has fantastic color sense, so I can’t wait to see what she does.

Ugh. It’s hot in here in the main office. Back to the summer office I go. Have a great weekend. Stay cool. If you absolutely must touch wool, please be sure your air is sufficiently conditioned. Ugh.

And no, still haven’t had those waffles or pancakes. Maybe this weekend.

  1. It looks like Sadie fainted. From the heat or the work you are making her do? I should try to do that next time they give me a project around here.

See, the advantage of having the mini-hounds is you can still work on the bed with the two of them. If both of mine are on the bed I have to find a new space.

  2. LOL@ Laurie’s comment. 🙂

I don’t make up my bed either for that same reason unless my family come to visit.

  5. I don’t make my bed either.

And my room has become a summer office too (also the location of the a/c). Sometimes I work in my undies (which haven’t been stored in the freezer) lying on the bed.

This is why I’m totally spoiled for more traditional forms of employment.

Where’s my VK?–I love that shawl.

What colour are you painting your room?

  6. Oh, you make me blush. Thanks to my pregnant brain, I haven’t been able to decide on colour swaps. But I’m keeping the turquoise, ’cause I have to have some wacky clash going on. I made my baby nephew a sweater out of this very yarn. It is all that. Promise to get the yarn purchasing done this weekend. Not ’cause I’ll start knitting immediately, but so I don’t flake out!

  13. Oh yeah, that’s total yum on the colors. I don’t make the bed either. Ever. And I have the same story as you with the mini-blinds, only with artwork for the walls (got the prints, haven’t got them framed, or got them framed, but don’t have them up – that sort of thing. Curtains, too. Once bought wallpaper for a bathroom and it sat so many years that when they went to put it up it was practically brittle. See why we’re connected?

  14. Another one that doesn’t make the bed…unless “special” company comes over. Mainly family.

I saw that shawl in VK the other day and was thinking of doing it also. I know seeing you doing it is going to push me over the edge and make a yarn purchase for it.

  16. i have to say…the summer office support staff look pretty lazy 🙂

so what color will the walls be?

  17. Great colors, indeed. That shawl caught my eye, but I just don’t think I’m ready to take on something that big and lacy. I’m sure yours will be stunning. I’m ashamed to admit that I have matted and framed art that has been sitting in its bubble wrap for many months, waiting to go up on walls. That said, I’ve been meaning to paint for oh, longer than I would care to admit. My walls (and there are a lot of them) are in a shocking state. Maybe you’ll inspire (ummm, shame?) me to action.

  18. Love your colors, I myself enjoy similar colors that I deem to be “fall colors”. I will be excited to see how this shawl is coming…it has been a consideration of mine. Looks like something that would keep you interested!
