The last thing I’ll knit in 2006?
I’ve managed to knit maybe three rounds on a st st sock since Thumper was born, and I don’t see much knitting time in my near future. I did manage to get a bit of knitting done for him before he arrived, though.
Just before I went into labor I finished this placket-neck pullover for him to grow into. The pattern is from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts. The 12-month size took three skeins of Mission Falls 1824 Wool.
Heh, I remember when a friend gave me a size 18 mos. onesie. She was a mother of three at that time and said to me, “I know you think it looks HUGE right now, but you’ll be surprised how quickly she’ll grow into it.” And she was right on both counts. I thought, “She’s NUTS. My baby is not that huge and won’t be, ever.” And – *blink* – it fit her.

Even if it doesn’t fit your adorable little Thumper now, it makes a lovely blankie. 😉

I know that sweater! It will be perfect this winter 🙂

He’ll be all grown into that in no time…and he’ll be very handsome and cute (because boy babies can be both handsome and cute at the same time)in it too. He’s just such a gorgeous little one 🙂

You’re knitting time will return one day. My mom gave me some excellent advice which was that when my baby napped, it was time for me to take a break and do something for myself. Thumper will be on a napping routine before long and then you can have some “me” time.

He really is a beautiful newborn-very sweet. You may feel busy now but enjoy this quiet time. Finish up novels, knit while he’s nursing. I was shocked at how quickly my 8 month old became agile and wanted to move around. Congratulations and best of luck to you and your new little family.

Wow, Thumper looks so big already. He’s an old soul, looks like he knows a thing or two.

He’ll look quite dapper in it–it needs little leather elbow patches!

Thumper has utterly charming little feet.

Delurking to say that both Thumper and the sweater are just adorable! As someone else has already said, looks like you have an especially alert young’un on your hands 🙂

He’s a cutie! You will be shocked to see how soon he fits into the sweater and then outgrows it! My daughter was so small (she was a premie) I thought she would never fit into anything. Was I wrong!
Posted by: Wendy
How sweet! My advice- when he naps, you should nap too! Hope you find some knitting time soon.

Thumper is such a cutie. Its eye opening to read your entry and other mothers comments about how little “down” or knitting time there is. I guess I should finish my projects up now!

When (if) summer is fullblown here in the Northeast, you’ll be so much more comfy with baby out than baby in. It’s surprising how all-consuming care of little ones is (= no time for being crafty unless you don’t have to sleep) but I hope you still can find time to keep up your blog because it’s so much fun to read!

I’m guessing it will fit perfectly this winter.

The knitting will return sooner than you think. 🙂
The sweater. So precious. heh Cute little expression he has there.

Your son is just beautiful! The sweater looks great too! I am about to begin your Baby Yoda Sweater for my neice/nephew due early September.

You think you’ll never knit again, but you’d be surprised…once you get on more of a schedule (and you *will* get on a schedule, I promise), your time will return. Especially when Thumper starts sleeping through the night and you have your evenings back. I was able to start knitting in earnest again once my daughter was a few months old. Also, I figured out how to knit socks behind her back as she slept against my chest. Try that!

The pullover is beautiful!

He has some growing to do! He’s a doll and you’ll be knitting again (just for relaxation) soon enough.

What, you mean it doesn’t fit him now? I think it fits perfectly!

Whoops. Forgot to change my name. But you knew who it was.

It’ll get better, I promise. Right now, sleep is the number one priority (sleep while the baby sleeps), but it really won’t be long before you’re knitting again, it just seems that way. In a few short weeks, you’ll be whipping up tons of cute baby hats and mitts for the coming fall.
Hard to believe my own kids were ever that small 🙂

Marvelous. We crave more pictures of your beautiful baby. How are the dogs taking to him?
Posted by: Angie
You’ll find more time in the near future. At some point breastfeeds will be a snap, and you’ll whiz through diaper changes. I know, because I learned to knit some time in my daughter’s first year of life.

Cute, cute, cute

He kinda has that look. You know, that “again with the camera” look. Thumper: get used to it, kid.

He will look smashing in that gorgeous sweater in a few months. He is a gorgeous, yummy looking baby! You do good work!

That’s okay. Just show us more Thumper photos, and you’ll definately please the masses. He’s absolutely cute and handsome at the same time!
