Thumper loved his sling. Thumper and his mom REALLY love the pouch

pouchbaby.jpg

I liked the Maya Wrap sling for the most part. It was comfortable and Thumper was happy in it. Thing is, when I wore him in it for an hour or so, it tended to shift and pull through the rings a bit–or maybe it was just the cotton stretching. It would need adjusting, which got annoying. As did all the extra fabric of the tail. I loved the idea of the ring sling, but didn’t always love using it.

I decided to try one of these pouches instead. Fantastic. Once adjusted, it’s fixed at that size. It’s more comfortable in the heat than the sling because there’s less fabric. There are no rings so Thumper can sit up more in the cradle position, which he prefers. It’s just better for us. Huge relief that we’re both so happy with it. See, I haven’t mastered one-handed food prep yet, so if I don’t wear the baby I can’t eat.

  1. Awesome! Slings were my saving grace til about 2 (!!) My favorites were chicpapoose.com (non-adjustable), and pea in a pod from momandmepouch.com (adjustable handdyed hemp).

  4. He sure looks relaxed in there. I never truly mastered the one handed spreading things on toast trick, but got pretty good at other things.

How have the dogs and Oscar adjusted to Thumper’s arrival?

  5. Hi New Here!

I wanted to say I love your pouch way cute. I have an 11-month old and baby carriers in general were my LIFESAVER. I loved mei-tais when my little guy got bigger and strained on the shoulder and pouches in the beginning and now. I just wanted to suggest http://www.thebabywearer.com for any help or questions you may have. Also http://www.attachedtobaby.com has an AWESOME selection.

    Thumper is beautiful congratulations.

  13. How nice to see everyone settling into the pouch, the breast feeding, everything. I’m loving these baby and mother updates. 🙂

  14. You’ve had me oggling the patterns of the slings since you sent me the link, and hearing you’re loving it makes me want to get one too – you can never have too many slings right?

  15. Another lovely photo. I love checking in to see how you all are doing, and I’m so happy that the Harlot’s advice solved your newborn problems. The sling looks very comfortable, and it’s fun that the dads can wear the baby, too, after 9 months of the moms doing all the work. Yeh, I’ve been wondering as well – how are the dogs accepting the new presence?

  16. he certainly does have the cute thing down! He seems to be changing and filling out in subtle ways – I, too, enjoy the updates.

(and yay! for a breastfeeding answer that includes yogurt and two handed food creations thanks to the pouch. it looks like it might have avovados on it (or I could just be craving them…))

  17. I had a sling that I used, but I did much better with the Baby Bjorn – I never worried that the baby was going to fall out, which I sometimes worried about with the sling.
Really enjoying the pictures – Thumper looks like a sweetie!

  23. I served someone at work today who was wearing the EXACT SAME POUCH. I think maybe she thought I was checking out her tatas, but it was my amazement at the sling, I swear!

  24. That is the sweetest face I’ve EVER seen, (next to my little guy’s)! Thanks for including that link… as soon as I get my first bonus again now that I’m back to work…I’m getting one. I think Alex would like it and it looks more comfortable than the front carrier I’ve been trying to work with.
