I love my city, but…
Annoying New York Moment #476:
Which is actually an annoying New York Day. There’s a big film shoot going on outside my house today. Whatever provides the juice to the wardrobe trailer is making this really irritating whir whir whir sound, and I’ve had to close the drapes and block out the beautiful sun we’re having because otherwise the crew will get to look through my living room windows and watch me nurse. Sure I could nurse in another room, but then I’d have to leave my couch.
And no, no celebrities to be spotted, which can alleviate some of the annoyance of an invading film crew. They’re making a commercial. Years ago (maybe nine?) when I still lived in the East Village, part of Town & Country was shot on my street. Also annoying, since my studio faced the street, but then at least I got to meet Steve Martin (and Diego and my beloved now-departed Sofia got to meet Steve Martin’s dog).
To this day, I hate the movie “The Untouchables” because it was always in between where I was and where I needed to be – even at 6 am!

You got to meet Shithead!?! Wow!!! (I just watched “The Jerk” again last night.)

Hey, I too lived in the East Village (E11th C/D) and was constantly dodging the Sex in the City crews–now that’s wardrobe trailers…
Maybe you can get Thumper into commercials by nursing in the open window?
Avariciously yours,
Silvia

Nothing to do with movies… just a neat site I thought you might appreciate. The stories are really beautiful.

I’d like to say “Aw… let ’em look!” but I know that wouldn’t be wise and it’s just too bad. May be someday nursing a baby will be a common place sight once again.

That’s frustrating. I felt like that when the aggressive door-to-door energy salesman made me retreat from my front porch and slam the door in his face when I really wanted to be outside with the door open. Except he went away faster than your film crew will.

Was Diego all star-struck? He hasn’t posted in a LONG time. Hey – will Thumper guest-blog sometime??? 🙂

HI, I found your blog while surfing for a sweater to make with Brown Sheep, Cotton Fleece. I like the sweater you made for your mom (found in your FO Gallery)may I ask the name of the pattern and where to get one for myself? Thanks.

Oliver Stone was shooting in my building this past year, but his crew was pretty low-key. Not much of that kind of excitement around here, usually. TONS of it near work, though.
Speaking of which, lemme know when you’re ready for the daytrips. The museum’s a great place for babies – there’s so much for them to look at. And lots of places to sit.

Recently they shot a movie practically under my window. Lots of gunfire- with like a zillion retakes. That was fun.

They were filming part of the Nanny Diaries right by my office, but I didn’t get to see anything good.

(when i lived in the west village) i had several run-ins with spike lee filming, including being kept all night by him and wesley snipes yelling “fuck you!” “no, fuck you!” at each other right outside my bedroom window, but all the scenes i’ve witnessed so far were cut from the final films! so not even worth my pain!
