The kindness of knitters
Thumper has received an amazing knitted gift from my friend Andrea:
How gorgeous is that?! I lovelovelove this sweater and can’t wait to dress the kid in it this winter. Billy and I are both so touched that Andrea would dedicate this much time and effort to a sweater for our little guy. Yay Andrea! (She’s the one who got me started knitting, by the way. It’s all her fault. The huge stash, the piles of knitting magazines, this blog…all her fault. She’s a terrible influence and I love her dearly.)
A while back, Thumper received another package–an adorable hat and bootie set and a washcloth from Rabbitch. I promised to post a photo of that gift soon, then promptly forgot that I hadn’t already done so. Sorry! Mom Brain! Here it is:
Lucky kid, yes? He’s going to be damn cute (and quite colorful) this winter. Now I just need to manage to get that donkey jacket done before he outgrows it…
What a lucky little guy! Thumper will be so warm and stylish this winter. Why do I suddenly want a cup of hot chocolate?

What a great sweater! And I hope Thumper hasn’t outgrown the hat and booties by winter. I think I decided you were having a tiny little baby. Or maybe a Keebler Elf (I have to work on those decreases *g*)

Aww – the cutest knits for the cutest baby in New York! And your friends totally know what colors you would like best too! Oh yeah, the sweater and booties aren’t technically for *you* but… well yes they are. That’s so awesome. 🙂

The sweater is absolutely gorgeous! The colors are so pretty. Do you have pattern details? The hat and booties are also adorable. Thumper is one lucky kid!

What a great sweater! Beautiful Andrea! (I’m leavin’ out the comma deliberate-like.)

hahaha–oh, I must go on record as saying that Cari was well on her way to becoming an obsessed knitter way before she encountered the true depth of my insanity! I had nothing to do with any of it at all; all of that talent was just sitting there raring to get out on its very own : ) May that beautiful Thumper be warm all winter long.
Oh! And the pattern (with some mods) is just the cover design from the little Vogue Knitting on the Go Baby Knits (possibly OOP now) book. Easy-peasy, truly, and I substituted Reynolds Turnberry Tweed for…hmmm…whatever the pattern called for. I decided against the colorwork on the sleeves, as it seemed like it would be awfully bulky for a baby/leave too many floats on which little fingers could get stuck.

Wow, that sweater is truly fabulous! And I love the set that Rabbitch made — and in your color, yet! Can’t wait to see Thumper all decked out. Actually, though i want to see Thumper in those garments, i’m in no rush for winter. xoxo

Awwww, it’s so much fun to knit for little ones!

Oh, wow – Andrea’s sweater is stunning. Thumper’s going to be cock of the walk (or crawl, as the case may be) in that.
What are the materials?

I am waiting with anticipation for the Thumper Donkey.

That sweater is GORGEOUS!!

On Brian Lehrer(couldn’t comment on the appropriate entry – it doesn’t work) – the idea of the “cool guy” is iconic in our culture. Unfortunately it’s merely myth.
