Knitblogger down!

I meant to have a post for you today, but instead we’re running to the dentist because an old filling cracked.

Is it possible for a toothache to hurt more than labor, or have I already fallen under the spell of euphoric recall? I mean, at least there’s a bit of space between contractions. This tooth, on the other hand, is relentless and doesn’t care how I breathe or how much I relax.

I made it through four days of labor before turning to pain medication (and then only because I needed pitocin. And I was off all narcotics 24 hours after the c-section. Why, yes, actually I DO want a medal, thanks. This six-inch scar isn’t nearly as shiny as a trophy and I can’t put it on the mantel.). I made it through ten minutes of toothache before crying for advil and anbesol.

Anyway, off we go to see the dentist. Billy will meet us there to amuse Thumper while I get fixed up. Hopefully I’ll have something of interest to offer you tomorrow.

  1. Ow ow ow! Tooth pain is awful, and I agree with you that labor is somehow more manageable since there are little breaks built in to it. I hope the dentist can patch you right up!

  5. Owwwwwowowowow!

Please, for the rest of us feeling sympathetic pain, get some meds. I hope you get it fixed soon.

  6. At least labor doesn’t happen right inside your head! And you have nine months to gear up mentally. Plus you get a darling baby after – but toothache just gets you a bill. 🙁 Feel better!

  11. Four days? FOUR DAYS?? I have a theory that the closer the pain is to the head or the spine, the more bothersome it is. If the pain is distal, it’s easier to ignore it – or so I like to think. P.S. Gotta try those mittens, but the weather is not spur this year.

  13. Oh, GAH!!! I’m a walking time-bomb with all the antique (and that is not an exaggeration! since I was 12 years old — do the math!!) fillings in my mouth. Damnit, I’ve probably jinxed myself now.

I hope yours are all better now.

  14. It’s true — you just can’t ignore pain that’s in your mouth (or in your head, or on your face, for that matter). I hope you’re all fixed up good!

  15. There’ve been studies about this… We cope much better with really big pain than more “minor” pain, because our brains kick in at some point to cushion us from the life-altering pain. (Not to mention, there was actually a *point* to labor pains, while a cracked filling is just a kick in the shins.)

    Hope you’re better soon…

  16. That medal would already shine on your mantelpiece if I could decide. Please tell me that the effing scar gets smaller and less itchy with time. Good luck with the tooth. I hope you have a nice dentist.

  23. FOUR days? You are my hero!! Amazing. Yep, any sort of head pain is awful, because you can’t distract yourself by thinking of something else when your thinker hurts. Hopefully Thumper puts on his angel-baby hat and gives you an easy day today.

  24. You mean I can let go of my fear of giving birth cause I’ve survied a weekend of tootache followed by a root-canal in one of my wisdom teeth, followed by a long period with very little money due to cost of mentioned root-canal? Yay!

    Hope they’ve fixed you!

  25. Oh man. That toothache sounds horrendous. Hope the dentist is able to fix you up real soon.

  26. yes, tooth pain is worse than labor. I gave birth to 2 children, one that was 10 lb 13 oz and one 9 lb 13 oz, with no pain meds. Piece of cake compared to the abccess I had years later. Even the lamaze breathing didn’t do anything for that pain…only time in my life I wished I could faint so that the pain would go away.
