Utterly (unreasonably) proud
The Hold Steady on Letterman last night.
They’ve come a long way from that first show of theirs I saw at Northsix, me and thirty or so other folks on a rainy November night just after the fiasco of election day 2004. I know many of you may well be sick of hearing about The Hold Steady on this blog, but, well…do check out this video. And then if you’re still sick of hearing about them I hearby absolve you from any future Hold Steady link-clicking.
Go on. You know you’re curious. Do it because Tad’s a good daddy and his daughter loves him. Do it because it was Galen’s birthday recently. Do it because you’re still dubious about Craig’s alleged Clark Kent to Superman rockstar conversion once he opens his mouth. (I swear, it happens.) Do it even though my brush with rockstardom didn’t make it to the final album cut. (I’m over it, I swear. Tad assures me it’s cooler to be on a B-side.) Go on. Clickity click.
And then turn it up.
Thank you.
I am forever in your debt for turning me on to this band. I listened to “Boys and Girls in America” this morning, and was struck once again by what an epic album it is. Whew.

Thanks to you, I immediately went out and bought Boys and Girls in America and I love it. So, keep writing.

I saw them last night and thought of you, despite the fact that we’ve never met 🙂

I looked the Hold Steady up online based on your descriptions and started playing a sample track that I found. About 20 seconds in, my husband turned around and said, “Who is that??? We need to pick that up!!”
And we did. And it was good. 🙂

I completely understand. If I knew anybody who had their own album and performed on Lettermen, I would be just as excited.

Thanks Cari!
Now to get my hands on their CD!

Those guys are awesome. I don’t know if I ever thanked you for turning me onto them, but if I didn’t, well, thanks.

You can mention the Hold Steady as much as you like, and I’ll always click the links. Keep ’em coming, I say.

Love the lines about kissing and dancing. Heh heh. Congrats to your friends! I’ve been meaning to get a copy of their album for some time now.
Matt Mays, (a friend of Mr. Happy’s) recently appeared on Conan. Someone posted it on pervasive-tube, but made the mistake of naming the show – so it was removed. Bummer. (Ah, I am eloquence personified, non?) The person who posted The Hold Steady was smart!
