Thank you, Paul McCartney

It was suggested in the comments of this post that perhaps my Beatles/Portland dream was an indication that I’d “get by with a little help from my friends.” I’ll admit that when I read that comment I smiled but also groaned a wee bit. Turns out it was totally true, though. Except that I’ve gotten by with a hell of a lot of help from my friends.

In the mad rush to get the house ready to show, Iris, Juno, and my lovely (blogless) neighbor Celine have totally come through for us. Juno even–get this–washed the windows. She showed up armed with a full supply of green cleaning products and made the living room and dining room positively spotless for today’s visit from the realtor’s photographer.

While here, she also won Sadie’s heart. So much so that Sadie wrapped herself in Juno’s cashmere scarf, hoping to “accidentally” go home with her.

Open house on the 15th. We’ve been busting our asses, and there’s still work to do (don’t ask about Billy’s office), but we’ll be ready.

  1. I heart Juno. And I’d like to ‘accidentally’ go home with her every time I see her. Sigh.

  2. I’m not surprised at all that Juno came through for you. Good luck with finishing and getting ready!

  3. How wonderful! You have amazing friends. 🙂 And I must say I can’t wait until you are out here in this amazing state! However, it is raining cats and dogs today 😛 I can’t even see Mt Hood for the clouds!

  4. Oh, would Juno come to my place, too? We’re facing the unexpected prospect of moving this summer and aren’t even half as ready as you. Best of luck with the open house – may you be in escrow by the 20th!

  5. I’m looking for a statue of st. anthony to bury upside down in your yard. I think its st. anthony. it supposed to help sell houses.

I’m in love with your dog.

  6. A person who would wash your windows for you is worth the greater sum of her weight in chocolate or the volume of her yarn stash in cashmere.

  7. Moving is hard work. I have a couple of friends that helped me pack/unpack when I moved last. I’ve returned the favor for them in the next year or so. My house would require a good bit of work to go on the market if I were to try to sell it now. I’m hoping to get all of those things completed by the end of summer (but still don’t plan on selling). I’d just like to live in an uncluttered and finished house.

  8. My mother and I were discussing this weekend how much easier it is to clean other people’s stuff than your own. For her she gets distracted and moves things to another room or stops to flip through a book that she forgot she had. But for me it’s a matter of feeling overwhelmed by the clutter. I don’t want to do it, because I know the DEPTH of the clutter, whereas with someone else, you have NO IDEA how deep the clutter is. 😉

So we determined that a cleaning swap would be a good thing. Like people with similar levels of clutter or dirtiness and similar sizes of houses would swap cleaning. But having friends come over to help you clean is good too.

  9. Just jumping on the “Juno is wonderful” bandwagon. I must see you one of these days. It’s been way too long.

  10. Good luck! I can’t blame Sadie for wanting to wear that scarf – it is glorious!

  11. Best of luck selling your house. I just helped my parents get their house ready to sell. They worked really hard but it paid off since the house sold for above the asking price in three days. Today we found a new house and the joy we felt was incredible. Here’s hoping that that you and your family have as great an experience as we did.

  12. Portland Monthly is about “Best Neighborhoods” this month. Want me to send a copy There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and it peeks out from the clouds now and again. Michele, I can almost always see Mt Hood from my window at sunrise. Trouble is, you have to be awake at sunrise 🙂

  25. Dear Cari,
I saw on YaiAnn’s blog that you were craving pizza but feel deprived because of Thumper’s excema.
I have good news for you. In downtown Portland, near PSU there is a place called Hot Lips Pizza. It is damn good pizza. And they have a cheeseless, meatless pizza that is out of this world good. I went to high school a couple blocks away from there and my vegan friend would always get the cheeseless, meatless pizza. It was so good that the rest of us would inevitably beg a bite from hers…
    Cheers!

  26. Tell Juno to stop by my abode. I’m 1 hour north of San Francisco and have wine and dirty windows…

Good luck with the preparation. I’m sure it’ll all be fine and work like it’s supposed to.
