Blank Canvas Vest and bedhead

Quiet Saturday. Billy’s taken Thumper out for the afternoon to give me some writing time. I’ve written, am taking a short break, and will write again. Through my office window more sun than we’ve seen in a long time, and the sounds of neighbors working in their backyards. Someone’s burning some kind of sweet-smelling wood.

Sadie goes into rescue tomorrow morning. I miss my girl. I’m sure she’ll find a good, loving home, but I’ll miss her. I wish we could have been her forever home. We thought we were. Diego has never seemed happier or more relaxed, so there must have been pack stuff going on at a level we mere humans were too thick to pick up on.

The Blank Canvas Baby Vest pattern is done. Awaiting feedback on it from the lovely and talented Jenn, and I hope to make it available for sale at some point this coming week.

And…open house tomorrow. I don’t know if I should call it our second open house or our first and a half, considering the first was drowned out by the nor’easter. Wish us luck. Good house-selling vibes welcome.

  14. Cari – Don’t beat yourself up over giving up Sadie. The status quo changed, and she prefered life pre Thumper. When we relocated 8 years ago, after a year or maybe 2, one of my cats couldn’t handle it, he was miserable. He ran away from home, he is now living with an elderly lady one street up. She lives across from a middle school, prior to moving we lived across from an elementary school he couldn’t be happier – the kids stop by on their way home from school and pet him, just as they did where he used to live. His new mom loves him very much. While I miss that crazy cat he deserves to be happy! So does Sadie.

I know how you feel about Sadie. We have to understand that they are individuals and not possessions that we can control. She has her own needs and ideas and you are respecting that.

  20. I totally agree with the tollhouse cookies comment…people will know that they are being psychologically manipulated, but it still works. Just don’t let them burn, or it will backfire!

Thumper is turning into such a cute little boy…he looks very grownup in his sweater vest.

  21. So sorry to hear about your dog, but I wanted to tell you how much I think you did the right thing. I’ve been on the judgmental side of the fence too and after my kid was born I have also come to really understand how loving people who intend to keep dogs for the rest of their lives have to suck up their pride and selfishness and do the right thing. I don’t think it is any kindness to keep a pet in your family when the family dynamics make it miserable. Stress is hard on dogs too. As one of your other commenters noted, she will adjust long before you will. You were a much-needed advocate for your own dog, I’m just so sorry that that means she won’t be living with you any more.
