The Blank Canvas Child’s Vest

A simple v-neck child’s vest, to be knit plain, striped, with contrasting trim, with intarsia or Fair Isle motifs. A blank canvas for the knitter’s imagination.

This little vest is a quick, satisfying knit in worsted weight yarn. I used Mission Falls 1824 Wool for the plain vest and KnitPicks Swish for the Robot Head vest. Each vest knit up in just a few days, even with the very limited knitting time that chasing after a now-crawling Thumper allows me. I have to say, I love these vests. As the weather changes, he’s been getting a lot of wear out of them. Perfect for the in-between weather, and great as a layer on cool nights. Now that he’s mobile, I especially like that the vests leave his arms free to move but keep his chest warm. I will be knitting more of these for him, the next one most likely to be bright, Muppet-colored stripes. He’s wearing the 12 to 18 month size in both photos.

  1. So nice…Love how the same vest looks so different just by changing the colours and pattern. The red vest worn with a white shirt and a tie and he will be ready for his coffee and cigar in the lounge!

  2. Your vests are beautiful as is your little man. I admire you for remaining a veggie person through your pregnancy and raising your baby a veggie baby.
Sadie will find a good home with loving parents…don’t feel guilty. She was obviously stressed as well.
