Tonight
the buyer whose offer we accepted this weekend who then pulled out of the deal this morning to pursue another house that just came back on the market.
Great. Good luck with that, guy. So glad we spent our Memorial Day weekend negotiating with you.
Verbal agreements mean nothing in NYC real estate. Ive been on the other side of it, having pulled out of two deals (for good reasons) before buying my co-op in 99, and was on this unpleasant side of it before when the first buyer of my co-op pulled out of that deal the day they were supposed to sign the damn contract. (Taking the apartment off the market for three weeks in the process. Charming of them. I hope their cold feet developed corns.) The co-op did sell, as will the house. And at least this guy got out of the deal quickly. And I cant really blame him, because you should of course buy the house you love best and apparently he loves this other house best, but
why doesnt he love OUR house best? I loved our house best. I think everyone should. Meh. So this guy, and then we had an earlier offer that was just way too low and turned out it wasnt a lowball offer but just someone who couldnt afford the house and
and Im totally oversharing here. Somehow Im much warier about posting business goings on than I was about sharing the indignities of the pregnancy last year. Hmmm. Interesting money matters are more private than bodily functions? I guess so.
Its funny, isnt it, what we will and wont share on our blogs? I remember a time when most of us wouldnt post our faces on the blogs. Nearly every FO shot had the head cut off. Mine too, for the longest time. And then one by one the faces started appearing. Who showed their face first? Anyone remember? Of course, some people are still camera shy.
Sometimes Im afraid Ill regret later having so many pictures of myself and my family available online. I wonder whos maybe grabbing them and for what purposes. But then I think yeah? So what. What’s the worst someone could really do with those photos? They’re images of us, not our actual flesh. (Though I do think I’ll probably post fewer pictures of Thumper as he gets older and starts to venture out into the world.) Id miss the community of the blogs if I didnt share the occasional photo. I mean sharing glimpses of our lives is part of what were doing here, how were connecting. I dont get nearly enough knitting time anymore to just talk about the knits. Not that I ever really did. I think this was a purely knitting blog for about five minutes in the spring of 2003.
So I post pictures of myself and my husband and my baby, and I tell you that we had an accepted offer that fell through and then I set my Myspace profile to private so only my friends can view it. And theres far less up there than there is available here. Go figure.
Speaking of knitting (I was, sort of, in a round about way, wasnt I?), the stealth knitting project is misbehaving and I need an equipment change to whip it into shape. Which means Thumper and I (another nod to privacy there. Though someone once actually asked in a comment if that was his real name) are heading out on a needle-buying adventure tomorrow. In the meantime, Ive been amusing myself with non-stealth knitting. Specifically socks for me. In orange Trekking. Mmmmm .Trekking. Ill take a photo tomorrow.
I’m so sorry your offer fell throught – how fustrating! The good part is you’re getting offers, so it’s bound to happen – and I hope it’s soon!

I’ve wondered about the privacy thing myself – so many of my online friends use codenames for their significant others and children – but my blog was initially set up so I could post pictures of my daughter for my family who live in another country… why would I even dream of using codenames for my family? There’s no turning back now – but I haven’t mentioned the city we live in (although a discerning reader would get it from the photographs), the company I work for, etc.
I hope you get an even better offer soon!

What a drag!
We have our buyers going over the contract with their lawyer today and hopefully we’ll be signing it by the weekend. But your story is not making me feel too secure right now!
We once had a house bought out from under us (like, someone called the realtor with CASH at the moment we were in his office drawing up an offer; the house had been on the market three years with no bites) but in retrospect, it was the best thing that could have happened to us. We found a much better house soon after.
Timing is everything; maybe, in retrospect, this will turn out to be a good thing and you’ll get a better offer or the timing will allow you to find your ideal house. The fact that you’ve already had two offers means you won’t be waiting long for the next one!
Hang in there. Deep breaths.

It is really funny what we’re willing to share and what we’re not. I always find it fascinating.
The house will sell. It IS the best house. I’d buy it if I could. (Of course, my opinion of the house may be entirely skewed by the fact that you live there. But probably not.)

I know how you feel! I’m selling my flat… and even though I’ve accepted an offer and everything seems greate, I have to (due to the complex-rules) wait until june 5th to see if anybody with a lower membershipnumber will want to “take” it away at the same price… Waiting waiting waiting!

i’ve got to get some of that orange trekking. and the reddish one. and the pink and green one. i have soooooo much time to knit, you know. good luck with the needle buying and the house selling and the stealth knitting and the insomnia.

I’m flying out to NM this afternoon to put my adorable condo on the market. I’m dreading the selling process…it’s never as easy as I think it should be. Anyway, good luck with your place!

Oh, the real estate game. What a pain. I’ve been through house selling twice, and it was misery both times. And eventually, when we’re empty nesters, we’ll sell this one, and I already dread it.

Selling your house is the worst! My real estate agents managed to make me feel really bad about it because they pointed out all the flaws as the reason it wasn’t selling. Your house will sell.

Nothing like orange socks for yourself to help balance out super-secret-stealth knitting.

Whew, it’s a good thing he didn’t buy your house! If he had bad enough taste to like another house better than yours, clearly he would have done something heinous like painting the kitchen green and orange and putting in purple countertops.

Some days I want to take every single picture of my kids down. Then the next day I go posting more. What’s up with that?
Hope you get another (better!) offer on the house.

I found out my MIL reads my blog now and it has effected my blogging 🙁

So sorry about the real-estate headaches and woes. It sounds so stressful! I know you know it will all work out in the end, but that’s not entirely helpful right now, is it? As for privacy on the blog, I’m a bit shy, but mostly I’m just too picky about pictures of me. If it’s a good picture of the knitting but a bad(ish) picture of my face, I’ll just crop the face out. My husband is the one who gets really worried about sharing pictures. I have a picture on flickr of my toes sticking out of socks in progress and I got a weird comment which sounded very foot fetishy. I laughed it off, but it gave my husband the heeby jeebies.

I hated the process of selling our last house. B has a taste for it … me, not so much.
I recently took down a few pictures of my kids that were getting waaaaaaaaay too many Google hits, and don’t post about my older children at their request, but if I’m blogging about my life, well, they’re a huge part of my life, and I’m going to write about them. I’m just a bit more selective.

I am sorry your offer fell through. That is really frustrating. Have faith, something will turn up soon!

I really enjoy reading your blog so I’m glad you decided to share with us! Sorry about the house headaches. Hopefully the right buyer will turn up soon.

I like your house the best, but could not afford it even if we were moving out there.
When *are* you coming to Austin? I’ll settle for going to Portland when you’re settled.
I just have big mixed feelings about blogs, period. My best friend from high school took her password-protected blog down b/c she could see how many of us were just reading, and she wanted more exchange. It was more of an ego thing than anything else, really. I like reading blogs to catch up with friends. Don’t feel like I’ve got enough interesting stuff going on to have one myself, though. Yet I’ve made this post way more about me than I’d expected.
XOXO
