ugh
I’ve got a nasty cold, and I’m having some serious nostalgia for the pre-child days when I was free to just climb into bed with my knitting and a box of tissues and hide out until I felt better. I need to rest. I need to doze. I need some restorative knitting. Nope.
At what age (the kid’s age, not the mom’s) do moms regain the right/ability to take a sick day? I need a sick day.
Thumper is an empathetic little guy, so he’s been unusually low key in his play today, wanting to cuddle and read books. He’s not racing around like usual or asking to go out. So really, I shouldn’t complain. Except for the fact that my eyes are open and I’d very much like to close them right now.
Grumble grumble kvetch.
Oh–and I’ve strayed even farther from the monogamous knitting, but with good cause. Thumper has outgrown his winter hats and needs a new one. I’ve had a hat design kicking around in my head for a while, so I’ve cast on for that. (Yes, non-knitters, it would be easier to just buy him a hat, but where’s the fun in that?) So if I manage to shake this plague, watch this space for a cute new kid’s hat pattern, and probably an adult version. Just in time for last minute holiday knitting panic. Yeehaw.
Okay…the kid and the couch call.
Cough. Snuffle. Cough.
Aw. 🙁 *hugs* and miso soup to you.

If my kids are around, it doesn’t matter how poorly i’m feeling: they won’t let me rest. Obviously, it’s not intentional. They just don’t understand that mommy isn’t actually Superwoman, and there are a lot of things they simply can’t do for themselves. I have found that the only time I’ve been able to crawl into bed for a rest is when the kids are in school. I hope Billy can take thumper off your hands for a few hours.

Hugs! Hope you shake this cold quickly 🙂 At least it’s a good drizzly day meant for staying cozy inside.

I would recommend that you get some Emergen-C and take it. It will make you feel some better and give you a little more energy. It will also kick the cold in the backside and get you back on your feet a little sooner, and if you are still nursing thumper, it’s just vitamin C and some minerals that are safe for kids as well. It comes in a myriad of flavors that you mix with water and drink down. The lemon-lime seems to be the best and you can get it at Fred Meyers and most health food stores or pharmacies.

Cold viruses suck. I hope you beat this one back soon.

Based on my mother’s complaints throughout my life, that age never happens. Sorry. At least he’s trying to accommodate you. What a cutie he is. He knows that snuggles will make Mommy feel better.

Hope you are feeling better soon. My youngest is 3 and the kids still have no concept of letting me rest, let alone when I am sick. I’m surprised when people blog about knitting when they are sick. I cannot knit when I am sick. I try and may get out a row or two. I know that I am really sick when the urge to knit leaves me.

At what age? Maybe four or five. I’ve found now that my girls are older (8 &4) they understand Mommy needs a nap. But there’s always napping together when they’re Thumper’s age. Feel better soon!

Mine are 17 & 22 and I’m still waiting for a day off. But I have it on good authority that you should be able to take a sick day sometime after your children become parents. Until then – lots of Vitamin C.
Hope you feel better 🙂

Aw, he sounds so sweet. At least you’ll get some rest when hubby comes home, right? He can bring you juice and fluff your pillow. Now I’m jealous. It sucks to be sick when you live alone.

I want to offer just a little more hope. Last week, my 15 year old looked at me and said, “Mom, you really need to slow it down and recover. Do you want me to stay home and take care of you?” So, 1 down, 14 years to go! Feel better.

I’ve got it, too. I spent last week (yes, all week) in jury duty and I’m calling it the County Courthouse Crud.
When you can pack said child off to school and then go climb back into bed, THEN you get a sick day. The things you never thought you’d be nostalgic for….
(What do vegetarians do in place of chicken soup?)
Feel better!

I hope you are feeling better soon. My favorite soup to eat when I am sick is chinese hot/sour soup. I like something a little spicy to clear me up!

Poor thing.
That is all, just poor-thinging you. Hope you get sleep soon. xo

Hope you get better soon. I’m dreading my first need for a sick day…. My little girl seems to have no concept of me doing ANYTHING at the moment, if I sit she tries to climb up, stand and she hangs onto my pants! Don’t even talk about knitting and spinning when she is awake!

Mine are 21 and 15, I’m still waiting ;)I’m sure by the time the youngest leaves home the oldest will be married and droping of her kids for babysitting! Time to move to another continent. (Not really, I look forward to grandkids, just not for another 10 years. I’m too young to be called grandma 🙂 )

Mine very oddly lets me sleep on the couch. She’s nine. But she does not let me sleep on the couch without a ginormous pile of stuffed animals covering my body and a kiss every five minutes to the hand. Which, you know, sort of negates the sleep aspect.
Love to you, darlin’. Hope you feel better soon!

Ugh! Sorry to hear you’re under the weather – I’m sure I’ll be joining you soon. My Captain Adventure has got a nasty cold right now, which means mine is sure to follow. 🙁
Hang in there. Chicken soup! Or pizza, if you’re me…

Whoops, strike the chicken soup. I forgot just long enough to hit “post” and then go “WAIT!”. OK, so, my personal favorite vegetarian “not chicken soup” alternative is onion soup. A bunch of onions cooked long and slow can do wonders for you.

i hope ya feel better soon dude!

Oh, to have a sick day all to myself again! Feel better soon!

i do make a good babysitter. i’m just sayin’.

Welcome to the ever present Oregon cold. It is good weather for knitting (even when you feel kinda funky). You just need to find a good play group:)

Uuhhmmm…when they go to school. Then you have from 8 am to 3 pm and not a minute more.

By the way – I’m really wondering how your italian greyhound is doing in the Oregon weather and in the new neighborhood and house?? Being the owner of an iggy myself, I’m wondering how they adjust (or don’t) to new surroundings?? Could you post at some point about him please?

The times I was sick enough that I couldn’t shake it off, I made liberal use of the VCR. The kiddo was willing to be amused with all her favorite videos, and I could doze on the sofa. Cooking and housekeeping- forget it!

As well as onion soup (mmm, sounds great), when you don’t have to worry about being somewhat fuzzier than you already are, try hot lemonade with a slug of some booze and raw honey. (Or just the honey if you don’t drink booze.) That helps everything. Plus makes you mind it less. [g]
Good luck with concentrating enough to count on that hat!

right with ya…been home the past two days and the annoying thing is that i can’t hang it on a cold or flu, just not feeling well. makes me feel nervous that i’ve used up my ‘quota’ and then i’ll get slammed with a “real sick” (cold or flu), instead just *&%$ tired, tired. i did think, as i was getting myself lunch, what the hell would i do if i had a needy child right now? yikes!

My boys are 16, 15 and 9….and I can now have a nap on a Saturday afternoon without the household falling apart. They weren’t kidding when they said Motherhood is a full time job that lasts a life time. (c:

My daughter is 8 and my last time being sick (last week) was the first time she dealt with it gracefully, even helpfully.
My husband is 45. I don’t think he’ll ever let me rest.
Happy belated birthday.
