Oh look! I knit a pair of socks v.377

step socks.jpg

Yarn: Austermann Step, colorway #26
Needles: 2 Knit Picks classic circs, 2mm
Pattern: The basic roll-top sock pattern that lives in my head

I wasn’t so into these socks as I knit them, for some reason. I’m not exactly sure why, since the colorway is rather perfect for me. I knit them here and there, when my hands needed some mindless stockinette. Now that they’re finished, I absolutely adore them, and I’m regretting not making them knee highs. How cute would knee-highs be with that striping pattern? I have so much yarn left over that I could have easily done it, too. I don’t love them enough to lop off the cast-on edge and make the legs longer, but I will remember this for the next time I use a sock yarn with the same put up.

New socks. Mmmmm….

  1. Love them! The stripes are wonderful 🙂

How well do they stay up with a roll top? Mine would be around my ankles.

  2. Are you feeling more cheerful as this year’s political events unfold?

  3. I know what you mean. I’m hankerin’ for a new pair of handknit socks, myself.

  7. Roll top socks. Love that idea. May I ask what the pattern is that lives in your head. At least the basics, at the top that is. I can figure out the rest.

  8. The standard roll-top remains my favorite sock. To answer Michele, they stay up just fine! Better than some of my other ones, matter of fact. And I’ve been seeing that Austermann Step in my LYS and have been intrigued by it. Me, the non-sock-knitter, even.

  9. Oh I love them, too! They are just the sort of socks that make me immediately think, “I really need to learn to knit socks!”

  14. I knew as soon as I saw the pictures what yarn it was – I LOVE this yarn & am currently working on socks with the same yarn – different color! I too wanted to make mine taller – but mine will turn out about the same height – yours are beautiful! Enjoy wearing them!

  18. You should have just enough yarn left over to make Thumper a pair. I started making my grandchildren’s socks whenever I made a pair for my self. As they grew I had to get extra yarn. They are now 5 and 7 and they wear nothing but handknit socks and they love them. Spoil them when they are young!

  19. Happy New Year to you and the family. I’m a bit behind. Love the socks, the pink sweater is super fab too (submit it to Knitty–hint hint).

  20. Great socks! This pattern–is it your design? Is it for sale? You have to make the knee socks sometime, definitely.
