Positive Negative Socks

I’ve always got a pair of stockinette socks on the needles. Here’s the latest pair:

I’m planning to make a second pair just like them, so I can choose matching or coordinating, depending on my mood.

Trekking # 183 and #145

  1. I really like those colors together.

And also… what are you doing up so late/ early?

  2. I just love Trekking. I think it’s my all-time favorite sock yarn. Just idle curiosity: How many stitches and what size needle do you use for your stockinette socks? I went up to 64 st. (from 60 previously) on my 2.5 mm needles, and I still feel like my sock is going to be SNUG. I’m such a tightass — I mean knitter.

  3. I like the idea of being able to mix and match socks that still go together.

  7. I love your socks. I always have trouble making the second sock so I learned something from another blogger. Start both pairs at the same time with a second set of needles. Knit on one until the cuff is finished, do the other one the same and just alternate between the two until both are finished at roughly the same time. I’m doing some now and will post them later on my knitting blog…ciao

  9. My first handknit socks were orange and gray. My mom had made them for my dad and I got them after they were inadvertantly shrunk and felted into lovely long lasting house slippers and cross-country ski socks.

  10. Love the duotone and suspect you of trying to instill the lust for sock-knitting in me. It’s working.

  11. I’m so glad to see you enjoying the stockinette sock. I’m in the middle of my third pair (in a row) and starting to think I might be in a rut. But no: they are wonderful! I love your color combo.

  17. I love trekking and this is a great color combo! I juse made some brown socks with turquoise contrasting heels and toes…I didn’t make the reverse though since I didn’t have a lot of koigu for the contrast (it was scrap yarn from some mitts) But..I am SO going to do this. I love the idea of wearing mis-matching matching socks 🙂 Yup..I am so stealing this idea.

  18. That’s a cute idea, I think I’d like them to be opposites more often than not.

  27. Those socks are great!

But I have to wonder … and on the third visit to the blog, I have to ask. What sort of shoes are you planning to wear with them?

I ask, because, if you cover the heel and toe, you can’t tell that they’re positive/negative or mirror image, or whatever. They’ll just look mismatched.

Or am I just being too stodgy and conventional as usual?
