A quick question for the knitters

babywarming

I’m finally writing up the baby hat and legwarmer pattern for release, and I’ve got a question for you. What size range would you want to see on this pattern?

I’ve already done the math and testing for a 0-6m size and a 6-12m size. The legwarmers have a lot of stretch, and once those babies start walking the legs slim down, so really the 6-12m size on the legwarmers would fit 6m-4 or 5T, with only the length needing to be tweaked. (And not even that, for ankle/calf-length warmers. They fit Kiddo quite well, though he’s not too fond of the color and I didn’t want to force him to pose for a photo in his sister’s legwarmers.)

If I sized the hat up for bigger kids, to go along with that flexibility in the legwarmer sizing, what size should I go up to? How old of a kid would you knit this set for?

I think a six year old girl would think that was an awesome set.

Also, that is a very cute babe.

I won’t be surprised if you get adult requests, but I can calculate adult — having this for a range to six or nine would be lovely. (I had to go back and delete my comment on the photos asking WHAT that hat was. Very, very appealing.)

I agree. Going up to a six would be great.

Ummm how about for a 24 year old kid? :p You have a very cute little girl!!

I think it depends of how well they stay up. If they stay up really well, maybe a 4-5 year old child? It would be easier to pull on warmers over a pair of jeans/pants rather than snow pants if a child was going outside on a not bitterly cold day. In my mind, I’m really picturing an infant. Possibly even under a new born sleep sack or over a thin pair of pants.

I’d make this for my girls who are 5 and 7. And it isn’t easy to find legwarmer patterns in sizes large enough for the 7 year old. And she is a really small 7 year old. I tried a pattern because someone on Rav had used it for older kids, but they really don’t fit well. I really, really would love it if you published it with the larger sizes!

I think girls up to 5 or 6 would love the legwarmers; they’re a great way to get more wear out of dresses when you don’t want to struggle with tights or leggings (diaper changes, potty training), or for elementary school kids who need to keep warm on the way to school. So size the hat up accordingly too?

  8. Katie says:

I don’t know for sure, but I know I’ve seen toddlers in leggings. Some kids really love them. 😀

I have no idea, but, omg, Lady Bug (are you still calling her that here? Or am I confusing my babies?) is so cute!!!

  10. Lizbon says:

Um, I have no good answer for what you’re asking, but I cannot refrain from commenting that if Ladybug came with the pattern, you’d make a mint. What a face!

  11. She is SO CUTE, by the way. I love how she has Momma’s eyes. Who made the Rose of Sharon applique quilt that Ladybaby is perched on?

  12. Beverly says:

Last year I wanted to make a set of legwarmers for my scrawny 12-year-old niece. I think a lot of pre-teen/tween girls would love the entire set!

  13. Dara says:

size 10 ..my daugther would wear them esp. since we moved from Manitoba to Southern Ontario.
