Another stickyhot Sunday

Have I mentioned that I don’t especially care for hot weather? Yes, I think I have. I’ve mentioned it over and over again for several years, in fact. So let’s take that as a given and move on, shall we?

(But, ugh.)

I cast on for the empire waist cardi last week and this is all I have so far:

The Shine is working up nicely on Knit Picks US#3’s. I’m liking the Knit Picks needles very much, and am not minding the Shine at all, which is saying something because I usually don’t like to knit with cotton. Must be the Modal in the blend that makes it nicer to work with.

Not nearly enough knitting time. I keep going to sleep at night instead of sitting up, knitting. Clearly I need to get my priorities straight.

Good stuff is happening with the house, but I’m afraid to trust it, much less blog about it. I hope to have good news to share soon. If your fingers are crossed, keep ’em crossed for now, please.

  1. Hopefully the move to Portland will be cooler. Oh wait, we’re supposed to hit 100 this week. At least we’re not as humid in the summer. The winter is another matter 😉

  2. Just wanted to let you know, we’re still pulling for you and your family. For me the best part of the summer is when it get’s so hot there’s nothing else to do but be a slug, sit directly in from of the AC knit and sip a gin and tonic. Ah, v-a-c-a-t-i-o-n. Maybe this week.

i’m envious of the knitting. all my stash, except one sad ball of red cotton for dish clothes, is packed up and stored at our friends house.

  9. My personal feeling is that a person can either complain about hot weather or they can complain about cold weather, but they cannot complain about both! Though, I’m willing to concede a little leeway for really extreme temperatures–if you complained about heat all summer, but it’s 10-below zero with blizzard-like conditions, well, sure, you can complain a little about the cold. But otherwise, not so much! This is why I practically never complain about being too cold . . . I prefer to reserve the right to complain about icky, sticky, summer heat. Blech!

  10. Ok – they are crossed. I’m excited about your cardigan! Is that a seed stitch?

  11. My fingers are SO crossed! We managed to escape the heat of Virginia and I am ever so happy to be in mostly cool and the “mildly warm” (at least by Atlantic standards) of the Pacific Northwest. There may be some activity on the house in VA and I will not jinx it either.

Do you think the Empire Wist Cardi would do equally well knit out of wool? (You may have answered that before and I simply forgot)

Cross ’em if you’ve got ’em!

  12. Heh, “not minding it” is exactly the sort of backhanded compliment I give to cotton yarns. If it doesn’t stretch and split and annoy the bejeezus out of me, it’s a good one. Good luck with the -er- unmentionable potential event.

  13. will say nothing about that more than sending positive vibes your way…

yoda sweater is coming together nicely. I’m not really minding the cotton, either. I decided I had to channel “loose knitting”, and not compulsively tug after every stitch. I think my wrists like this method of knitting much more, too. I wonder if this will change the way I knit in general.

I’m 85% of the way through Rogue. I hope I don’t end up with one loosey-goosey sleeve when it’s all over.

  15. Sending you lots of good house selling juju. From what I’ve been reading it sounds like you’re making good decisions to support your lifestyle. It’ll all work out.

  25. I do not comment much but am a faithful reader.

I am glad you are sleeping, even if it takes time from knitting. I am a chronic insomniac and feel your pain when you can’t sleep.

I think you are going to luuuuuurve Portland. I lived in Eugene for 20 years and remember it being really hot once, maybe twice and then only for a couple of days. Winters are nice too. You get used to the rain/drizzle. It’s not like NY rain, in fact, most of the time I did not even bother with an umbrella.
