Attention New Yorkers
Anyone want to adopt a kitten? Walking home from the train this evening, I came across a VERY young kitten. Clearly a stray. Well, either a stray or belonging to someone who deserved to have their cat taken away. By me, that is. She was in the middle of the sidewalk, hunched up, bewildered and wheezing. Eyes half closed and crusted over with conjunctivitus. I think she’s probably still a little bit too young to be away from her mother, but of course there was no mother cat in sight. I picked her up–way too easily. She didn’t try to get away or wriggle at all, which is worrisome…
Anyway, Billy is bringing kitten milk home this evening, and she’s safely tucked away in Sadie’s crate (minus Sadie, of course) happily sleeping in Sadie’s smelly bed. Both Sadie and Diego think cats are delicious, so the kitten has to be locked up for her own safety. That’s also why we absolutely can’t keep her, as much as I want to. We have a vet appointment tomorrow evening (yes, I will still be very happily keeping our KnitNY date, Em and Iris) and I’m hoping there’s nothing wrong with her that some eye medicine and maybe antibiotics won’t cure. Once she’s healthy, we’ll be looking for a home. If you’re in the area and want her, please do let me know. She looks a little crusty right now, so I’ll post a picture tomorrow after she hpoefully gets cleaned up at the vet. I tried to wash her face but she wasn’t havin’ it.
Cari would love to have her, but the long distance flight to Melbourne Australia might be a bit stressful.
As you know, we have two Italian Greyhounds and we also have three cats. I think you might be underestimating your dogs – could you try slowing introducing each other – it might work.
Just a thought!

I have to move to Brooklyn tomorrow. I’m sorry, didn’t I mention that? I’ve just discovered that there’s a kitten I need to adopt, and also that I’m heartbroken, really and truly, at the thought of not being at KnitNY tomorrow. How did I fall so hard in love with y’all? Will you explain that to me, please?

Oh Cari, I think you found the thing to finally lure Rachael to Brooklyn! More pathos, please, it’s working! I love it when a plan comes together.

Aww my heart is breaking for that little kitten. If I lived in New York and if I wasn’t allergic to cats, I would definitely take him in. Have you named him??

Good for you. I’ve put the word out here at work, most of us already have 2,3, or 4 cats but hopefully someone will come through. Let me know when there are pix, that’ll help.

I would take her, but my husband would divorce me if I brought home cat #5!!!

Cari, did you slip something into my coffee when I wasn’t looking? Why am I even thinking about taking in Krusty Kitten?
Must resist… apartment too small… Cheb & Babykitty keep each other in check- musn’t upset delicate balance…

I’m in an adopting cats mood, I’ve had offers of two fixed, plus a mom with kittens in the past couple of days. The two already fixed I’m willing to consider. The other I’m trying not to consider. If you wanted to ship her to Oregon, Um, no, wait. . .
I hope her vet check finds her ok and soon to be healthy.

Do a search for rescue groups in your area. They will be so please you took care of the bet bill they would probablyt take her no problem. The rescue’s you would want would be one with a no kill policey. Meaning unlike the pound the cat will have a permenant-temporary home till a owner can be found, and people will go to those rescue’s to get cats for pets. NOrmally they pay because it pays for the vet bills etc.. like $100. Sorry im not up yet I can’t write cohrently, but there are some very nice resuce’s all over the place they would take her in and make sure she never was hungry again.
