Billy’s calling it the Yoda Sweater.

I don’t know exactly what to call it just yet. It’s done, though. Baby’s first sweater.

It was hard to get a decent photo of this yarn, for some reason. I’m much happier with the sweater than with the photos I took of it. I drew a sketch of the baby sweater that lived in my head on a particularly hormonal day, and knit up it actually turned out just as I’d wanted it to. Very, very pleased with this little thing. I used three balls and a little bit of a fourth of Mission Falls 1824 Cotton. (June baby = cotton sweater, you see.)

There’s an internal tie to keep everything in place.

I’ll write up the pattern next week and post it for anyone who’s interested.

Next up in baby knits is that Dale of Norway Sea Lion sweater. I bought the yarn for it a while back, and it taunted me from the stash while I did all the holiday knitting.

Happy New Year’s, everyone! Be safe.

  1. I’ve been reading this blog for a while, but this is my first comment. Very cute sweater! Baby is lucky to have you for a mom. Looking forward to more adorable baby things.

  2. I love this little sweater, and I hope you’re writing up the pattern in a range of sizes from 0-6 mos. to age 33.

(And there’s so much more to catch up on! Love the Action Oscar shot, the socks from Monica are gorgeous, your skin will clear up, it’s OK to have some jelly beans, and Happy New Year to you, too! Mwah!)

  3. Very nice. The design is excellent for a newborn. You can lie the sweater on the bed, the baby on the sweater, tuck the little one in and tie it up! No messing around with trying to slip the neck of the sweater over the head of the baby!

  4. It’s very sweet. Happy New Year, Cari! Just think what this new year will bring for you guys!

  5. What an adorable sweater! I can’t wait to see the pattern – I have a godson due in March and this sweater would be perfect for him.

  6. Beautiful sweater! A year ago I was in the same situation as you…about a month further along though, and I didn’t have a baby sweater knitted yet, that’s for sure. Happy New Year – 2006 will become your best year ever when baby arrives. There’s nothing like it. Hope you’re feeling well!

  16. That’s cute. A baby in a wrap sweater is always cute. I wish I could look half as cute as a baby in a wrap sweater!

And although I didn’t comment on the other entry-that Oscar is adorable!

  17. I love your sweater. I remember making my daughter’s first one (from a pattern not of my own design) while we waited to adopt her. For me, there was something very special and comforting about the anticipation of actually putting this handmade creation on my future child. Get lots of pictures of your baby wearing it!

  29. It’s adorable. And, I just got around to reading blogs today, so I wasn’t able to comment on the previous acne post.

I’m not sure what to tell you about treatments, except that salicylic acid topical treatments are considered safe in pregnancy, I believe. You’ll want to ask your OB/GYN to be sure. I’ve always had an acne problem, and it’s only worsened by pregnancy hormones, so I feel your pain (knowing you’re not alone may help, right?).

Just be happy the hormones haven’t given you chin whiskers. Because there’s nothing more feminine than a lovely pregnant lady, minus the glow, plus the acne and with a little goatee to boot. Ask me how I know.
