Birthday fiber misadventure
Sure it was about 90 degrees and 115% humidity on my birthday, but I had finished my Rosedale United and was determined to wear it. I walked into KnitNY, very excited to show off my latest FO to Em and Iris. I knew there were some other Rosedales out there, but not in this colorway. Mine was special, unique, a perfect birthday sweater even if it was a tad bit too hot to be wearing 100% wool.
I had quite a surprise waiting for me when I walked in, and I don’t mean a birthday surprise.
Sitting there, knitting and looking very innocent, was Em. Wearing a Rosedale United in the same colorway as mine! And she’d never even told me she was making the same sweater!
Shocking, right? Well, get this. Then I look out the window, and there’s Iris waiting for a bus. And what’s she wearing?
Here I was in my candy-colored Rosedale, thinking I was so special and that no one would have a sweater like mine, and two of my knitting friends had the exact same sweater on! I needed a coffee. A large one. And a muffin. So I went to the counter and guess what? Yep, even the coffee-and-muffin slingin’ chick had a candy-colored Rosedale.
To add insult to injury, her blue and green hair looked much better with the sweater than my pink and plum.
What’s a birthday girl to do? My mom would probably say that even without the most unique sweater in all the land I’m still rather special and unique. I couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed though. The muffin helped ease my pain. Sugar has a way of doing that.
(This has been a joint production of Unfurnished Iris, Everybody Loves Michelle, and Dogs Kiss Cari. All rights given up if you say the magic word. Hint: The magic word ain’t please. It starts with a “Y”)
No!!! I can’t believe you ALL knit the same sweater in the same color ways and all wore it fabulously on the SAME day.. This is a trick no?? Happy Birthday 🙂

goodness! that is determination to wear that sweater out!
and the only thing that could have made this post better was if the sweater had written it.
AND that is one BEAUTIFUL Rosedale.

Dang, was this on Friday? What time were you guys there? I hit KNY 12:15-12:45 or so, & then had to make an emergency trip to Kiehl’s, must’ve just missed you.
And this is the weirdest thing – you’ll never guess what I was wearing…

That was hilarious. I was laughing so hard my kids ran over screaming, “What?!” and “It’s not funny!” The latter child has control issues. He has to tell you you can laugh.

Well, now….I’m not sayin’ you’re a fibber or anything, and I know it’s not April Fool’s Day, but I’ve been a visitor to this blog on a few occasions lately, and I know you are a Photoshop pro, so…..I’m just sayin’….. But happy belated birthday anyway!!! I love your blog.

It’s true! I just happened to be there, waiting for a bus, wearing a wool sweater in 90 degree weather.

Stop it! You’re killing me! This is too good.
Oh, and the sweater? Beautiful!!

Hahaha. I’m so sorry I couldn’t make it, so I could show off MY Rosedale too!

HEEHEE! Very funny. Happy birthday to you.

That is so cool how you ALL started the sleeves and the intarsia at the same place in the repeat. Simply amazing.
But I think your hair looks the best with it.

Yeah, that’ll happen, I guess, when knitters start spending a lot of time together…kinda like the way our cycles synchronize.
That was so embarrassing, though, all of us wearing the same thing on the same day in the same place.

Thank Allah I went to KNY a little later that day! Imagine how embarassed I would have been to stumble into your group in my full-length Rosedale trench coat! It might not have been too bad though — my colorway was mostly yellows and browns (I’m an Autumn).
Oh, and on to intarsias — I’m working on an intarsia trench coat now, and it was pretty slow going for a while, but I have a trick that has really helped speed things up. Instead of using bobbins or butterflies, I tie each color to an arm of my chandelier and then either move around the room, or just rotate the chandelier as I go.
Hope that helps! XOXO

OMG! This is soo funny! 3 people besides you wearing the same one and everything! Sounds like the perfect birthday set up ever!! So sneaky!
