Chickami, she dead. A penny for the old gal*

*(Apologies to Mr. Eliot)

Yes, well, you knew it was coming, didn’t you? The wonderful Iris picked up the extra yarn I needed to finish the Chickami, and I sat down to finish it…and…well…I just didn’t love it. I didn’t even like it anymore. I frogged it, and thanks to Iris I have enough of the yarn to make something better (I only needed maybe one more ball, but asked her to get two just in case things turned out this way). I won’t double-strand next time, and maybe I’ll make a little knitted tee, or perhaps a 3/4-sleeve cropped cardi? It’ll be a much nicer fabric single-stranded. (So why did I double-strand it for the tank? Laziness, dear reader.)

Now that the Chickami is no more, I’ve been spending my knitting time on projects that I actually want to knit: the Dolman Updated, my mom’s long-neglected 3/4-sleeve pullover, and MC’s socks. No pics of my mom’s sweater because it’s just black st st in Cotton Fleece. I finished the first sleeve and the body to the armpits ages ago (am knitting it in the round). Now I’m almost done with the second sleeve and will soon join and get going on the raglan decreases. Few things thrill me more than SSK, so I’m looking forward to that. (No, I’m serious. I get a weird little charge each time I SSK.)

Here’s a photo of the Dolman Updated. That’s the two back pieces and one front. I’m planning to cast on for the final piece today. It’ll make a great pullover, but now I’m wondering if it would perhaps be even better as a cardi…

The LL Tuscany socks are knitting up very quickly, as simple socks tend to do. I love the way the colors are striping. No pooling at all…I guess the dye process is best suited to this size of sock (men’s large).

I’m really tempted to cast on the LL Motherlode I got for myself. After running around proclaiming my love for the simple sock pattern, and how soothing it is and how I have no need for meatier sock patterns because socks are my mindless subway knitting, now I’m tempted to make these using the Bavarian Twist pattern from Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles. It’s not a plain st st sock, but it’s not terribly complicated either. And I’ve got the soothing sock knitting experience ahead of me for MC’s big ole size 11’s (and then two pairs of size 13’s after that). So yes, I’m contradicting myself again and will knit these socks for me using this twisted stitch pattern rather than the simple sock. I’ll probably cast on for those in the next few days.

  1. I’m SO with you about lovin’ the SSK – – what’s up with that?

Chickami, RIP. Sometimes it’s just not meant to be.

  2. the dolman is so wack looking (i mean the shapes of the pieces of course not the knitting quality!)! very fun.

  3. SSK! I love that too, especially since a knitting teacher referred to it as a “SuperSonic Knit” stitch.

    Enjoy those decreases!

  4. Oooooh, pretty. Pretty!

The SSK has a rhythm to it that’s just unmatched by any other kind of knitting action. It’s smooth and satisfying. I tried the other way, where you do the same kind of decrease but in one fell swoop, but it’s not the same. Slip, slip, knit. Slip, slip, knit. Mmmmm.

  5. I love how you and Em both love SSK so much….

    And yes, cardiganize! Fershure.

  6. 1. Oh, how I love to decrease in any way, but you’re right: the slip-slip-knit is particularly fun. Maybe it’s just nice to say it out loud: slip-slip-knit.

    2. I tend to think that everything in life would be better as a cardigan. Are you more likely to wear the Dolman as a cardie? Well then!

    3. I’m so impressed with that Tuscany sock. Every LL sock I’ve seen in the blogworld has crazy (ahem, BAD) colour pooling. Yours, however, is simply stunning and perfect.

  7. Dolman is so cute. I was just looking at that pattern for some stash reduction last night. I think I’ve almost decided on the faux smocked number that is later in that same issue, though. I like how the sleeves are different.

I might be persuaded by seeing how great your Dolman is coming.

  8. Hooray for size 11 socks. I have a few pairs of those in my future, too. We should do a size-eleven-sock-along!
