Comin’ down off the sweet potato high
Ah, Thanksgiving. It was lovely. My darling aunt made these clever little sweet potato things–a half a scooped-out orange filled with mashed orange-flavored sweet potatoes. I assume the orange flavor came from what was scooped out of the oranges. Dunno. All I know is they were tasty and I had two on Thanksgiving and three more since. (I got to take home the sweet potato leftovers.)
So Thursday was Thanksgiving at my aunt and uncle’s house, and then yesterday Billy and I went to a wedding in Philly. Friends of his from high school. He has this group of friends who were extremely close in high school and are still close now, all these years later. It’s amazing to me. They’re 36. They’ve brought husbands and wives and significant others into the fold now, and everyone’s just kind of been accepted and fallen into place. Although I usually hate weddings, this one was lovely and we had a great time. The reception was in the 200+ yr old house where the bride and groom live, so that added to it. I’m a sucker for a gorgeous old home.
Speaking of gorgeous old homes, we finally have a closing date! We’ll be moving in a few weeks. Finally! Between getting ready to move, the usual work stuff, and the semester coming to a close, there’s been precious little knitting going on around here, and I suspect that will continue. I’m almost done with Michael’s scarf and that might be it for a little while. It’ll all be worth it, though. Soon enough we’ll be settled into the new place and I’ll have an entire corner of my office/studio dedicated to knitting and spinning. Ah, yes, spinning. I had to pack my beloved Louet away when my apartment was on the market, so the place would look less cluttered. Grf. So once we move, I can get to spinning again. I’ve got three pounds of the most lovely merino waiting for me, a gift from Billy last year. Well, once we move and all the initial work is done, anyway. We have to upgrade the electrical system right away, so all our stuff will be in storage while that’s going on. Then the plastering and painting and THEN our furniture will join us. We plan on camping out in the house until then. So no spinning for another month or two still. I am really looking forward to getting back to that.
Oh you knitters! You have the best blogs, don’t you?! I came across your blog today and saw the Italian Greyhounds. I too have a little greyhound, the jewel of my heart. And you have a Mac and an iPod. Love the photos, love the dogs.

Yes, I agree, knitters have the best blogs! 🙂
You made me want sweet potato anything with this post and I can’t stand them normally.
Hey, you gonna be all moved in by May? thinking about a knitting trip out that way…..

Sounds like a great thanksgiving/wedding. We bailed out of the country and spent the week in Quebec. No orange-flavored sweet potatoes, but plenty of (probably way too much) other food. Let me know when the new house will be visitable!

Your Thanksgiving sounds wonderful, and so does the wedding. Kudos to them for having an “intimate” reception in their own house. That’s cool. And it’s way cool that you’re going to have your own house very soon! Want help?
