First draft finished

First draft of my second novel, finished today. Crazy. I started it in October 2005, and in the time between then and now I landed an agent, made a baby, had my first novel shopped around and rejected for two years, moved across the country…

250 pages. 74,627 words. A first draft is only the beginning, and the book will likely grow by at least 50 pages, but possibly 100 before it’s done. I have a lot of work ahead of me yet before it’s ready even for my agent to see it… But for tonight, no more work. Tonight I get to sit back and bask in the glow of Having Written another novel. Apparently the first one wasn’t a fluke. Go figure.

(yay!)

  1. WooHoo! I wish I could write. I mean, I can write, but after reading some of your excepts, you seem to be able to WRITE.
And finishing two novels while also making and raising a baby? Dude, you deserve more than one night to celebrate!
Can’t wait to buy it in a store and read it!

  3. Congratulations!

It can be so valuable to take stock, every once in a while, of how one’s life has evolved over the past couple of years. It’s amazing how fast life can change! What a wonderful set of developments you’ve had. And I’m so glad to hear that the novel has continually been growing and is coming to fruition!

  5. Congratulations! I admire the discipline that you must have exercised to have achieved so much in such a relatively short time. Way to go!
