Grrr… spammers
I got SLAMMED with comment spam while I slept last night. Comment spammers are the reason I close comments on each post after a week or so. I’m sick of them. Movable Type has been great, but I think I’m ready to move on to WordPress. Same people, anyway.
He who makes my blog go has been encouraging the switch for a while. Hey, David! Ready for that migration? It’s time.
&%@%&( spammers.
oh, you will find that the Akismet WordPress plugin is a wonderful, wonderful thing……..

hum. Guess that means your blog is very popular. Sorry about the mess.

I have been thinking the same thing for several months now (WordPress, that is), for exactly the same reason. That and that I’ve heard WordPress is less clunky.

I didn’t get in in time…I’ve had a lot of luck with all the Manic Panic reds/pinks/purples. They stain everything for the first few weeks but they’re pretty vibrant and are vegan. I don’t think they have too many noxious chemicals because they smell and feel very gentle but I don’t know for sure.
I’m excited to try Lush after seeing that explosion of love!

IF you can get the akismet plug-in to work, it’s great. My blog’s on wordpress, hosted on a private server, and for whatever reason akismet won’t work. I get a TON of spam, but I have comment moderation turned on so they never show up on the blog itself, just in my inbox. I delete them in batches, marking them as spam along the way, about once a week or so.

I had wordpress, and I got fed up with it. I had to get a plugin for everything, and that might be ok if I had someone to make my blog go, but I have to make it go myself, and I’m only so geeky. There’s wordpress.com and wordpress.org. If you sell anything or make any mention anywhere on your site of selling anything (uh, that would be me), you have to use the .com version according to their terms of use, which means doing all the upgrades yourself. What, like because I sell yarn I have an IT staff? Not. So stuff was breaking and I didn’t know how to fix it and I just wanted to tear my hair out.
I switched to typepad and it does everything I need it to do. No problem with spam (none! at all! I was still getting spam with wordpress!), the settings do what they’re supposed to, and I don’t have to add a bunch of plugins to do everything. It’s just so much easier.

you can get just as much comment spam with wordpress, i hate to tell ya. you might as well upgrade to MT4. i’m upgrading someone right now and i’m really impressed with it.. and you can get the same kind of anti-spam measures as with WP. just sayin’.

I LOVE wordpress. I just have my comments set to moderate unless you’ve had a previously approved comment, and it catches EVERYTHING. No spam gets through.

OMG I too am SO SICK of SPAM! Why do people feel the need to post long lists of sex and drug sites on knitting blogs, seriously! What do they think they are accomplishing? I don’t get it. I can get up to 70 a day! SOOOO ANNOYing. I have a wordpress blog. I need to figure out what to do to stop it because it is really annoying.

I made the move from Blogger to WordPress just last week. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to import the majority of my blog. However, I couldn’t figure out how to get my links to migrate, and I lost all unmoderated comments, but for the most part, it was a fairly easy move. Good luck!
