I would really love winter if it weren’t so very cold
Yesterday was…what? Thirteen degrees? Today’s like twenty-three. Canadians, please stop laughing. Cold is a relative thing. And I’m cold.
I’m supposed to be editing someone else’s novel today. I’m also supposed to be working on my novel. But it’s cold outside and cozy inside and that just makes me want to read. Have you read The Art Lover, by Carole Maso? Do check it out. It’s wonderful. She weaves a fictional novel-in-progress in with a narrative of the author writing that novel-in-progress, plus snippets torn from art history books, lost ferret ads, etc. I’ve been somewhat preoccupied with layers lately, and the way she’s done it here is fascinating. I’ve also been somewhat preoccupied with dead and absent fathers, death of parents in general, feelings of being out of step, out of place… well…preoccupied with these things for years, really, and working through some of that stuff in my own novel. It’s helpful to see how Maso deals with some of those things here, in a totally different way than I would… (I’m avoiding authors whose styles are too close to mine right now. Afraid they’ll influence mine too much.)
Off to the hair stylist today to get the yarn hair refreshed. I’ll probably finish reading the book while I wait for the color to set.
There is, as threatened, much sock knitting going on around here. Pictures tomorrow, probably, as I think Billy’s socks will be done tonight.
You must show the hair, too. I’m very envious of ‘yarn’ hair. And looking forward to sock pictures!
Have a wonderful week and a very Merry Christmas!

This Canadian isn’t laughing, I’m freezing.
It’s warmed up today, but the temperature where you are is what it feels like in my office right now.
brrrr.
Luckily I’m wearing my cashmere scarf and Lara.

I’m a freak who loves this cold. I’m annoyed it’s going back up near 50 on Xmas.
Report back with hair photos!

Mentioning an obsession with layers and a visit to the hair stylist so close together makes me think you’ll be posting pictures of a new ‘do that’s somewhere between Richard Ashcroft and David Cassidy.
Please don’t scare me like that.

That book sounds great…I love a good book suggestion. Like I need anymore books on my “Must Read” list, but oh well. Can’t wait to see some pictures!

Yeah, anything under 23 degrees and I get a bit agitated…I mean really all you need is a good wind to push it to something obscene like 2 degrees. brrr.
hunker down, wrap a lovely hand knitted scarf around your neck and pick up that book!
enjoy! brrr,

Compared to yesterday, today is actually tolerable. Still freakin’ cold, but tolerable.
I wanna see yarn hair!

I’m so cold that I’ve been sleeping in my sleeping bag at night 🙂

I love Maso, how I don’t really give much of a crap about the plotline or whether I’m following it, because her language is so amazing.
Speaking of plotline: Watched Ashes of Time with La last night, which we LOVED, but we didn’t really get it. Who was doing what/going where/loving whom? Can you give us a crib sheet?

I must check that book out, then.
Yes, it was very very cold yesterday, and I actually had to close the windows in my apartment. But I don’t buy wool for nothing.

I totally agree…cold is relative. And when you live in NY or DC, we are not ready nor wanting this cold! Love the hair!

Cold is definitely relative. I’m Canadian, but live on the west coast, where the weather is decidedly warmer. The rest of Canada scoffs when British Columbians say they’re cold!
