neither here nor there

Some random linking for a glumgraysleepy sort of day:

Reading this.

And also this.

Listening to these guys.

Knitting a plain st st cowl (cowls are the new hoodie, by the way) in this yarn. (Hurray for stash-diving!)

If you weren’t familiar with Susan Choi before this post and want to know a bit more, there’s a new interview with her up at failbetter.

And…uh…yeah. That’s the best I can manage today. And if someone could manage to make a chocolate milkshake and a grilled cheese sandwich magically appear before me, it’d be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If I could do magic I would transport you and I to Santa Fe for the amazing four cheese grilled cheese at Harry’s roadhouse and a milkshake. I’m highly unmagical and can only offer you empathy becasue now I also want a chocolate milkshake and a grilled cheese.

what kind of cheese would you like? How about Bandon cheddar on 9 grain bread from New Seasons and a shake from Mike’s Drive In down on 17th. I just don’t know quite where to deliver them. 😉

For some reason your blog’s change of name meant that Ravelry no longer pops it up when there’s a new entry, despite your presence in Friends, so I’ve been strolling through recent ones I’d missed and just came across your reaction to Robinson’s Housekeeping.

    FistpumpYES!

I only beat you by about a year, and had the same reaction. Every sentence is perfect, every scene resonates backwards and forwards and while it is the ultimate literary fiction it’s also FUNNY. But I’m tickled by the people who “couldn’t get into” Gilead. Being a wuss, I had the opposite reaction, loving the quiet opening reflections; halfway through I was siezed with a hideous suspicion and said to my husband “Something’s going to HAPPEN, isn’t it, ” and he said “Oh, lots is going to happen.” No one who bails has any idea what the book is about or what it becomes. Robinson is very sneaky and she is hella smart.

(Oh, I’m so glad you read Housekeeping. Believe it or not, the movie of it is good.)
