Proud vegetarian mama

This morning, Thumper opened his eyes, stretched, looked at me, and said, “Bacon.”
“Bacon?” I said. “Bacon is meat. We don’t eat meat.”
“I want to eat bacon!” he shouted. “Meat! I want to eat meat! MEEAAAAAAT!!!”

I didn’t say anything, just kind of let it go, and soon he changed the subject.
“I want wings!” he said. “I want to fly!”

That, I can deal with. I mean, I want to fly, too. Who doesn’t? But bacon? I smell a meat-eating paternal setup in this. How did he even HEAR about such a thing as bacon?

Bacon. Oy vey.

Too funny (for me anyway *grin*) I could totally be a vegetarian if it weren’t for bacon! In fact I may coin a new word – a be-gan – a vegetarian except for bacon – think it would catch on?

I lived with a vegetarian for 4 years. Once a year he would permit himself a corned beef sandwich @ the 2nd Avenue Deli in Manhattan. It’d take him days to recover from it, though.

I like to eat vegetarian foods. Just yesterday, I realized my trip to the store only included one non vegetarian food – tilapia. However, I couldn’t be a vegetarian.

    Mainly because of bacon.

Does he watch TV? There’s the dog food commercial for ‘Beggin’ strips’. Maybe he doesn’t want meat – he just wants to be a puppy?!? with wings?!?!?

I’m shocked that no one has said, “He’ll get bacon when pigs can fly.”

Or when he can fly. Whichever comes first.

    I missed bacon when I was a presque-tarian.

Maybe he’s been secretly hanging out in NJ with Mindy? Or maybe he just smelled it somewhere and decided he had to have it? I should ask Teany what brand of vegan bacon they use in their vegan club sandwich as it’s really quite delicious. I think Blossom (on the upper west side) gets it from the same place, so I’ll inquire.
