Real-time insomnia plus boredom plus late-night interlopers

That schlumpy February feeling somehow led to my taking photos of our dinner plates tonight. That schlumpy February feeling plus insomnia has somehow made it seem like a good idea to post the photos. At the risk of boring you to tears, I present: Dinner

The grown-ups had leek barley risotto, broccoli, and cauliflower:

Thumper had broccoli, cauliflower, and quinoa puree:

And liked it just fine, thanks:

Jeez. Even the food looks schlumpy. I assure you, it was quite tasty.

Damn. I’ve actually managed to bore myself before I even hit publish.

And now a surge of adrenalin as the bedroom door, which had been shut tight, was pushed open though all humans and dogs were already here inside the room. For a split second I expected an uninvited human to walk through the door, but luckily it turned out to be an uninvited cat with super-feline strength. I have no idea how he managed to push that door open, but considering the alternative I’m happy to see him. (He gets locked out of the bedroom at night because he has this bad habit of trying to sleep on the baby’s head.)

Okay…maybe time to try to sleep again…

Maybe after some sleep I’ll manage to write a post worth reading. If not, hey…more dinner pics. We eat dinner every night, after all. And lunch and breakfast too. And often snacks… Why, the blogging possibilities are endless…

  2. Yep, more chocolate…although I’m glad I’m not the only one with the February schlumpies! Oh, and Thumper is adorable.

  3. I think the consensus is more chocolate, doll. Do it now. Thumper is going to outgrow his sweater before I can finish it!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEKKK! Can you still shove a 6-9 mo. size on him?????

  4. I actually enjoy dinner pics, speaking solely for myself as a non-bored reader. However, Fiestaware always seems to make food look schlumpy in photo — I guess it’s hard to compete with those vibrant colors.

  5. I’ve got that schlumpy February feeling, too. And what do we have to look forward to? March. Sigh.

  6. quinoa puree! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I have some broccoli puree in the freezer that needs a little somethin somethin, because plain broccoli puree is just gross. Thanks for the tip!

  7. You need more sunshine. Try some pineapple and oranges, with chocolate of course. Yum!

  8. I don’t think pictures of dinner (or breakfast or lunch) are boring. It’s interesting to see what others eat!

  9. Ha! Whenever I pass along a Moosewood recipe I’m like “I’m warning you, it’s not going to be pretty!! But eat it anyway, it does a body good.”

  10. You could always show us the uninvited cat. Haven’t seen him in a while, and was thinking about him recently after I found out my most recent feline adoptee (got him a month ago as a 4 month old) had been found abandoned.

And he slept on my pillow just beside my head last night.

  14. LOL. You’ve learned what I learned: Phood photography is HARD! I’m so happy to hear what’s in Thumper’s bowl, though. You know it does my Health Food Heart good, eh?

  30. Good lordy, Thumper is a cutie. And thanks for the reminder to try that risotto. I’ve made about a dozen recipes from the cookbook so far, and loved every single one.

  31. Here’s a schlumpy February cure–get to Grand Central, hop on a Hudson Line train and take a ride up the river. It looks just beautiful right now! You could go up to Cold Spring, walk around with Thumper and then hop right back on the train back to NYC. A nice mini vacation!

  33. The schlumpy food post cracked me up as no other blog post on anyone’s blog has today. Perhaps all this week. Either I have a bizarre sense of humor (possible) or I am so shlumpy myself that it all seems hilarious (likely) or there is something inherently entertaining in the ephemera of other people’s daily existence(s)(without doubt, since that is probably the reason for the continued existence of blogs at all).

  34. I love that face. I’d like to smush his cheeks and make kissy-faces. (Okay, that makes me sound like a baby-stalker but you know what I mean.)

  36. Hurray!!! It’s March. I have been feeling crappy too. Here’s looking forward to more sunlight and maybe a playdate sometime soon.

  37. That baby is so cute I could just eat him up! I love cheeks and neck kisses!

How is he doing (gaswise) with the broccoli and cauliflower? I’m scared to give it to my Bean since she had such bad reactions to sweet potatoes and spinach. And what is quinoa? Is that some Yankee food??
