The Greatest Hits of the Eighties

So Billy and I skipped the party on Friday night. Neither of us were very much in the mood (especially me) to get dressed up and schlep out to Greenpoint by the time he got home. Turns out that was a very good choice. I heard through the grapevine that everyone was just hanging around doing coke. (So it was a retro party, I guess. heh heh) My first thought on hearing this was “Are people still doing coke? WHO still does coke?” Coke was never my cup of tea, but it’s been years since I was even willing to be around that kind of shit. I just don’t need that energy around me anymore. I would have been less surprised if the people at the party were younger, but when I hear about people close to my age still doing drugs…well…isn’t it more than a bit pathetic at this age? You can hardly call it “experimenting” anymore. Don’t y’all have better things to do with your time? Weird. People are weird. No, I don’t even drink anymore. Not even once in a while, so don’t try to call me on the “alcohol is a drug” thing, cause I agree with that too. Billy and I stayed home and drank green tea. Yes, caffeine is also a drug. Whatever. I’m evolving not totally evolved.

WHUMP Off the soapbox. Here’s Koigu numbah one.

I’m two inches into the leg of the second sock. Two jobs due in the morning, so I’ll be working all day today. I’m hoping to finish up the capelet, the second sock, and maybe even my mom’s sweater this coming week, though.

  1. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that some of my graduate student friends were doing coke. What the –?! Yup, these are the folks teaching your children.

I had a great time Friday afternoon!

The sock looks beautiful, too. I’m getting ready to start my Koigu socks! OK, they’re not mine, they’re for my mom…grrrr….

  2. I spent all of about 45 minutes at a party Friday night. I was late getting there, so by the time I showed up, everyone was already drunk.

Walking sober into a room of drunk people is a great way to remind yourself that drunk people are idiots.

The sock looks comfy! Maybe I’ll finally do a set of socks this Winter.

  3. I did go out on Friday night, but I wished I hadn’t. Bill and I agreed that the people we know here just aren’t that fun. Plus I drank too much. 🙁

The Koigu sock is gorgeous! What an ambitious week you have planned, knitwise. Good luck!

  4. Dig that color, man.

And as re: drugs. Heck, it’s been so long for me (since the PD job) that I’ve forgotten what anything like that feels like (not that I was so into that scene). All I remember is the tiredness afterwards. Not worth it. I’m tired enough as it is! And you’re right, it ain’t experientation at our age – it’s just sillyness.

So tired right now I can’t think of a better word than sillyness. But I like it in regards to coke. Diminishes it, no? Stopping now. Mwah. Good luck with your jobs.

  5. I had a REALLY wild Friday night. Swam laps at the health club. Went to the grocery store. Ate dinner with my honey. Sat on the couch till 11:00 pm knitting with the dogs. I wouldn’t trade my life for anything! I can’t wait for the wild repeat this Friday either!

    The Koigu looks great.

  6. De-lurking here to express how much better I feel now about my own exciting Friday night – worked overtime, got Thai takeout, and was fast asleep long before the start of the Halloween party I was supposed to go to. Somehow after a week of almost-daily overtime, an invitation to “A Night of Debauchery” sounded as appealing as, well, the night of “experimenting” that you described – one and the same.
