The Lopi cardi reclines after her bath

lopiblocking.jpg

I was going to ask for votes on the right closure to use for this cardi, but now that it’s all seamed up it’s pretty clear to me that it wants a two-way zipper. Agreed? Tomorrow I’ll buy the zipper and either put the damn thing in myself or do what I swore I’d do NEXT TIME the last time I installed a zipper…and just bring it to a tailor.

In other news, I have a nasty and unpleasant cold, which struck without mercy on Friday night. Harrumph. If I do sew in that zipper myself, I doubt it will happen before my head clears up a bit.

Oh…and Floyd is no longer Floyd but neither is he Mike. The kitten’s final and official forever name is Oscar. Fits, yes? Billy and I are both happy with it. We’re also happy to report that Oscar and Sadie played Alpha of the Hill on the bed this evening and the kitten won. I think we’re going to be okay in terms of Dog on Cat aggression, providing Diego settles down a bit with time, which I think he will. Now let’s hope the cat doesn’t beat up too badly on the dogs.

  1. Yes! Oscar is the perfect name! Have you ever had to name a person before? It’s agonizing torture I tell ya! 🙂

  2. Tehehehe. Go Oscar. Sorry, I’ll always be on the cat’s side. And Sadie’s. She seems to see reason.

  3. Can’t breathe either, huh? Nyquil is my new best friend. /reaches for Kleenex and daintily wipes her dripping nose/

Clearly that sweater is crying out for a two way zipper.

  4. But….. but….. I swear, just yesterday that sweater wasn’t seamed yet. Right? Or is *my* head cold just making me stupid?

I think I’d better knit faster. I didn’t even get to see the kitten. (damn head cold)

  9. What happened to Floyd? I like Oscar too. The sweater looks so good…and it is crying out for a zipper, when I saw the picture I thought one was already there. Deja vu!

  10. Sorry about the cold. Glad for Oscar. And the sweater looks wonderful! Now, go get some rest….

  11. Oooh it looks so cozy! For the record, zippers suck. I would have a tailor do it, and I have a BFA in freakin’ fashion design.

Oscar is a good name…I’ll practice saying it so I can break the Floyd habit. Oscar Oscar Oscar!

    Hope you feel better!

  12. Darn, I was just getting used to Floyd. Well, you know him best. Knew he could handle the dogs. More pictures soon, please.

The Lopi cardi definitely wants a two-way zipper and a tailor.

  17. Glad to hear about Oscar. I wasn’t going to say anything, but Floyd is a white cat’s name. Obviously. I mean, duh.
I can totally see your cat singing “I Love Trash!”

  18. I am completely not making this up – as soon as I saw that first sad little picture of him, I thought that he looked like an Oscar! I whole-heartedly approve of the name change.

  19. I’ve got my first cold of the season- but you’d think I was dying of consumption, the way I’m acting.

    Oscar, Oscar, ahhhhhh
    Oscar, Oscar, ahhhhhh
Once there was a cat named Oscar
    Oscar, Oscar, Oscar….
    (Everybody! Sing it with me!)

  20. Awwww…I hope this does not reflect a penchant for diving into the trash cans, though.

I have actually heard good things about greyhounds and cats being okay together. Sounds like Oscar’s got it under control.

  25. Great sweater, the two way zipper is definitely the way to go. Now if we only had sweater weather to match the fall season!

  26. uh oh. I hope colds aren’t transmitted through comments, because I’d hate to have given you mine. Rest. Rest some more. Eat chocolate. Rest. And cuddle Oscar.

  27. I’m all about the zippers. If it were me, I’d definitely take it to a tailor, but I’m a big chicken. Glad to hear Oscar and Sadie are getting on so well, and that kitty’s holding his own. I liked Floyd for him, but Oscar’s a good name too, and in general I like it better than Floyd. Not that you’re taking votes. 🙂

  28. Off Topic: Could I pretty please have a copy of the pattern you made up for the blue moon crimson almost knee socks? I’ll gladly pay or swap for the pattern so that my Lorna’s Laces pinstripe yarn can become socks for my own tall boots! Thanks! (p.s. sighthoundlets are great…I had the best greyhound rescue until her ripe age of 14 and she was pals with many an iggy)

  29. The green! I love it. A two-way zipper seems like it would be perfect. What a great idea to use a tailor! I’ll have to remember that for whenver I make my first zip cardi.

  30. Oscar is a great name for an orange cat! (And with his fluffy hairdo, he has the coiffure — if not the color or temperament — of that famous trash-can Oscar.)

  37. All of our cats go though a cycle of names before they get their true names. They all have official “vet record” names that are nothing like the actual names we call them on a day to day basis.

The sweater looks great and a two-way zipper is the only way to go.

  38. You can always blame Oscar’s agression on what I like to call “small cat syndrome”!

  39. The Martian came THIS close to being an Oscar. It’s a great name (though I have a special fondness for Pretty Boy Floyd, thanks to the song.) Great sweater, too. Zinc, zinc, zinc, for the cold, also soup with as much ginger and garlic as you can stand. Feel better!

  40. Yep, definitely a zipper.

Oscar is one of the best cat names ever. I named a cat Oscar once — not one of my cats, but the cat of friends. And he is *such* an Oscar. I suspect Floyd/Mike is an Oscar at heart as well.

  41. Oscar is a very fitting name. Oscar, Sadie and Diego. Very lovely trio 🙂

PS – I figured out exactly how much of that stuff to use on my hair, and then I went and cut my hair. Dangit. Now I have to start all over again 🙂

  42. Sorry to hear about the cold 🙁 Hope you are feeling better!

(I like the name Oscar. Very cute. Although I’m sneezing just thinking about him!)

  49. Unrelated to knitting: I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now and enjoy your writing. I attended a lecture by Cynthia Ozick last week and something she said reminded me of your posts about being an unreliable narrator.

When asked about her non-writing life, she said that she lied a lot, and that fiction writers can only be trusted when writing. That is when they tell the truth.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  51. I just moved from California to Pennsylvania. It gives me strength to know there are cardigans like yours in the world.

Our cat came to us as Farrah and started out as Edwina before we realized her name was Molly “Schmoomy/Mischka/Chicken” Bean. Yeah, Oscar fits.

  52. I’ll bet you didn’t know that our family cat was named Oscar…he died last year at the ripe old age of 15. It must be our fiber/family telepathic connection revealing itself. We have good luck with kitties in our family – our first cat, Oliver, lived to be 22!

And, nice job on the Lopi cardi. I was going to ask about zipper installation…seems like a pain in the ass to me!
