In other news, I finished reading Sabbath’s Theater last night. Oh my god. How (why) did I wait this long to read Roth?

Oh be still my heart: those are Dr. Seuss socks!
Chicks with bricks and Knox with blocks, and so forth.

i love that book. the most glorious black humor.
maybe you waited this long, because…hmmm…
because it’s become so popular to slam Roth when in fact his last 10 (or so) books have, for the most part (minus maybe 2), been pure masterpieces.

Great socks! It would never occur to me to do something so creative. So you liked “Sabbath’s Theatre?” I keep meaning to dive into Roth but I always chicken out 🙂

American Pastoral is one of the greatest novels I’ve ever read. There’s a passage in there where the protagonist describes his young daughter’s body that takes my breath away everytime I read it. And it’s one of the absolute BEST examples of close third ever written.

Whenever I’m at a loss for what to read, I go back to Roth. His books never cease to fill me with awe.
