TRIBBLES!!!!

See that fluffy orange stuff? (Please ignore the frightening state of my desk. Yes, it’s always that bad.) It’s novelty yarn. It’s 100% synthetic. It’s hairy. Up until, oh, about last week, when I spyed this stuff on Knit Picks, I thought I knew all about novelty yarn. I thought I knew that it was silly, fluffy, girly stuff and that it absolutely wasn’t for me. I’m a natural fiber girl. I even had a hard time using Cotton Ease because of the acrylic content. I realize now, though, synthetic fibers have their place. They have their purpose. As far as I’m concerned, there is room in my knitting life for synthetic, novelty yarn as long as it helps me to acheive one purpose, a purpose that is very near and dear to my heart: The ability to knit something that looks and feels like a Muppet. I saw this color on Knit Picks and knew I had to have it.

My Muppet monster sweater has the Muppet colors, sure, and the Muppet proportions. What it doesn’t have, in all its 100% wool goodness, is fur. This yarn, these little critters attacking my keyboard, are going to be transformed into the most pettable scarf ever. Or rather, one or two of them will. I got kind of carried away when I ordered three. (It’s Lana Grossa Pep Tiger, by the way.)

Its furry fluffiness and pettability have already made this yarn an endangered species around here. Sadie was caught dragging one of the balls through the kitchen and toward her bed, where she was planning (I’m sure. I know my girl) to rip it to shreds.

  1. I like it! And I generally shy away from man made fiber. But I am knitting for my little one in two yarns, one of which is all of 50% wool – the rest acrylic or whatever the stuff is. Also a fuzzy eyelash thing.

I can’t wait to see how your muppet comes out though. I might have to make one for my sister.

    happy knitting

and there’s nothing wrong with a “muppet” sweater if it makes ya giggle and grin when you’re sportin’ it!
natural fibres are great (unless you’re allergic or sensitive), but novelty yarns have their place as well.
the stuff in your picture is intriguing…can’t wait to see the scarf it becomes.
