While the baby (finally) naps…

Ah, beloved Anemoi Mittens. I’m forty rows into the first mitten. (Color is truest in the pic where it’s on my hand.) If I had more knitting time, these would be a very quick project. Still madly in love with this pattern. I can’t wait to wear these mittens. If it ever gets cold, that is.

My mom comes on Fridays to hang out with Thumper while I get some work done–either writing or editing, depending on whether or not I’m on deadline. I am, in fact, on deadline right now, but Thumper was not impressed by that. We’re having one of those “Only my mommy, no matter how much I love gramma” days compounded by a “late-morning naps are for the birds” days. He’s finally down now, so a bit of much needed knitting and a wee bit of blogging…

And now, back to the knitting while I can steal the time. Have a good weekend.

PS: See that edge of a co-sleeper in the first pic? He hasn’t slept in it since he was a week old, as he prefers to be in bed with us. But it doesn’t go unused. It’s full of baby toys and books and knitting, and it’s where my computer lives when not in use. Which makes me wonder why all beds don’t come with sidecars. Damn handy.

  1. Love love LOVE those Anemoi mittens! Those colours are amazing. Are they handpainted yarns? Can you tell me the label information? Thanks!!

  2. Oh. My. Stars.

Those mittens are just astounding. A quick knit? Really? I’m a novice at stranded knitting and they scare me silly. Honestly, they’re friggin’ beautiful. Kisses to the boy child.

  3. I’m most of the way through my second one. They are a quick knit! I was so excited to wear them that I wore just the right one on a cold night.

    The red/yellow combo looks great.

  7. Very nice. I think I’m going to work on Eunny’s mitts (okay, why did I just giggle when I typed that?), since it ain’t exactly full-on mitten weather around here.

  8. It looks lovely and I do agree with everyone talking about how quick they are to knit. I flew through my first and would be done with the second if I hadn’t stopped to spin.

  9. Wow — those are gorgeous! My kids loved to sleep in our bed too (still do on occasion)!

  13. My crib never held a baby, but it sure held a lot of laundry. Damn fine hamper.

  14. Just bought that mitten pattern yesterday, and am interested to see how it works up in a different color. In the original, they reminded me of steam curling up from a cup of hot chocolate. We can still appreciate hot chocolate, can’t we, even though the temperature is 64 today in Rockport?

  15. oooh.. those are beautiful. I don’t wear mittens, it never gets cold enough, but having seen it on your hand, I can now see them as fingerless gloves 🙂

  16. My bed needs a sidecar. Who cares that the youngest is 17. I need a sidecar.

    Gorgeous mittens.

  17. My bed needs a sidecar. My knitting, books, Nalgeen bottles, etc. end up on the floor in between the bed and the wall. My hubby calls it my “nest”. I think a sidecar would be better.

  18. LOVE those mittens… they look fantastic. Let’s hope New York (and Boston) cool down enough to get some wear out of them. J’aime la neige.

  25. Wow. Everyone is making these beautiful mittens! I love the colors you’ve chosen… Maybe it is time I tried out this style of mittens!

Girl, you are the coolest. I love reading your blog and glad to have finally taken the time to comment!

  26. You have chosen wonderful yarn for your Anemoi. The colors and subtle variegation really add interest to an already beautiful pattern. They are absolutely on my to do list.

  27. Sidecar! Why didn’t I think of that? Our crib never got used, nor the bassinet, nor the playpen. Babies in the bed (and youngest still is). Just easier that way. No stumbling around a dark house for late night feeds. I, too, have a “nest” between bed and wall. Normally stuff piles up next to me on the bed until someone shoves it off the edge. A sidecar would be perfect.

  28. My son was two before I took the sidecar down, it was better than any night table I have ever seen! I don’t think he spent more than a few hours in it. He is my third and there is not a crib sleeper in the lot.

  29. omg, so beautiful! The colors and the pattern!
I’m pattern-shy. Sad but true, I’m very skittish of that type of thing.
    You totally rock, dude.
Marcel wants one of those baby sidecars, I’m considering it because maybe he wouldn’t poke me in the eye so often.

  30. I love the colors you chose on the mittens! Also, we are also co-sleepers and our daughter is nearly 7. Just this week she announced that she is ready to sleep by herself for “most of the night” which means she comes in in the wee hours of the morning. I will admit that I love sleeping with the whole family–makes me feel cozy and happy and safe. I never thought of the sidecar idea, though. Makes more sense than the pile of crap on the floor next to the bed :).

  37. Lovely ! Mum loves your work, and your Blog ! We have taken to knitting, not that we knit but we love to watch Mum knit, sniff the yarn, oh, and all the colours ! Just wondering what the yellow post-notes on the pattern are for. Appeared to have some sort of logical sequence ?
