Working hard for your blog-reading pleasure
A lot goes into the planning of our FO photo shoots here at Dogs Steal Yarn. There are long brainstorming meetings.
The opinion of every team member counts equally, whether they be knitwear model
Or yarn-stealing dog.
Take, for example, our latest FO, the Dolman Updated. We decided to start with the classic frontal shot with the bloggerÂ’s face cropped out of the frame for that cyber-anonymity so many of us embraced when we first started our blogs. (“No way IÂ’d put my face on the Internet. Nuh uh.” Yeah…how long did that resolve last for you? I think I made it several months. Bonus points to the reader who can name the FO picture that first exposed my face to the masses. No cheating by checking the gallery!)
And then it’s on to the “I love this sweater THIS MUCH” pose:
HereÂ’s the back:
And what FO photo shoot would be complete without the ultimate knitblogger pose? The Rachael. (We’ve modified ours, just to be different. We like to call it the “Sideways Rachael.”)
Sure itÂ’s a hard process, but at the end of the day, all the team members can be proud of the results…
This sweater was made using about seven and a half skeins of Noro Silk Garden #34 (for the 39″ size), and the Dolman Updated pattern from Interweave Knits Winter 2003. The sleeves are a touch too long, but otherwise I’m very happy with it. The unusual construction was exactly the change of pace my knitting brain needed.
This is the best knitting post EVER!! Ever in the whole world and the whole universe and in the history and even in the future of knitting!! I’m going to come back again and again and again to look at these photos, and I’ll probably laugh my head off every time. Yay Cari! You are da bomb. INDEED.
(And Yay Dolman! The sweater looks AWESOME and -sigh!- now I have to make one too. Of course.)

OH. MY. GOD.
I’m dying over here. Alison’s right, this is the BEST knitting photo shoot ever. Dolman is perfect on you, darling.
And was it a modified bottom’s up? It was some kind of hat, I know it. Wait, let me think. I’m going to remember, and I’m not going to check archives…. It was the first time I saw you! And I said oh….. THERE she is.

OK, I know the fab redheaded big doll was made by your Mum. But where on earth did you get the skeleton from?? Your props are A****** my dear, great visit 🙂

I think it was the layer-cake hat!
Posted by: alison
and I keep coming back to look! I love this post.
Posted by: Rachael
And now I think I’ve sufficiently calmed myself down enough to write. Alison said it, though–this is the best knitting post ever, and I too will be coming back frequently to giggle and admire The Dolman (it is so fabulous that it really does need the article and capitalization). I particularly like the coffee mug placement.
I totally remember the layer hat and your picture. And I remember Rachael’s “There you are” comment, too. Sniff. Good times.

Cari! Only you could take a FO and make it into a compelling read! I love the sweater! I am left wondering if Big Dolly jealous that she didn’t get to model the FO this time? And how much cuter can your pups get! Yea for you and a finished object displayed so wonderfully on your blog!

OK, me again. My other favorite parts of this photo shoot are the way Mr. Skeleton is posed–so very Board of Directors–and the picture of Diego giving you a kiss. Awwwwwwww.

I laughed so hard as I scrolled through the first three photos in this entry I nearly did injury to myself. Cari, Cari, Cari…this entry belongs in the Dogs Steal Yarn Entry Hall of Fame.
Your Dolman is stunning; the colorway is gorgeous. You always pick the most excellent projects!
P.S. The first time I saw your face was when you knit Kyoto, I think. But I keep thinking about the photo where you were wearing a mask, too.
