Yeah…um…not food poisoning
Ah, the joys of a stomach virus. Remember when I said I was feeling better? That didn’t last long.
And that is all I’ll say about that.
My symptoms are now gone, apart from generally feeling like I’ve been through the ringer and a lingering stomach-crampy feeling that I think may just be my abs crying for mercy. It’s Friday, which means my mom is here playing with Thumper to give me time to work. Except that rather than working, I’m lying in bed, unable to nap and thinking about how a nap would really really do me some good right about now.
Want to know how much Billy rocks? Billy really really rocks. I was too sick to take care of Thumper on my own yesterday, and so he took a sick day to stay home and take care of the kiddo. Just as I was composing a blog post in my head titled “Moms Don’t Get Sick Days,” he came through and called in to work and I did indeed get a sick day. He never calls out of work, because it means cancelling patients’ appointments at the last minute. Not as simple as calling out from a desk job. Sorry to any of his patients who might be reading this, but I needed him more than you did yesterday. Yes, I know your shoulder hurts. I still needed him more.
Meanwhile, my mom and Thumper are playing downstairs. I love listening to my mom play with him, that voice she uses when she talks to him. It sounds like my childhood.
Your observation about the sound of your mother’s voice connecting you to your childhood makes me want to cry, albeit in a good way. Such sweetness.
Billy’s definitely a keeper. I hope you recover in time to enjoy the weekend weather, which is supposed to be very nice indeed. sending you hugs!

I am so grateful that you did not require a “Moms Don’t Get Sick Days” post. Let me just say that only a very feisty 4′ 9″ nurse standing between my husband and the telephone, saying, “You can call them LATER,” kept my guy from his co-workers the day our son was born. I’m anxiously awaiting publication of your novel– when you feel better, of course!

I hope you feel better soon. The fact that your loved ones are there for you is bound to be a help. 🙂

Hmmm…not the dreaded norovirus, either, eh?

Yuck, hope you’re feeling better really soon. My experience with stomach bugs went way up with the babies around. There’s just more “stuff” around to make you sick I guess.
I’m glad you got a sick day–it can be 10X worse if you’re sick and have to mother.

The bug swept through our house a few weeks ago. Ugh.
My husband and I got it at the same time — and then the Peep got it. Double-Ugh.
I’m very sorry to say so, but I hope you are the only one in your house to get it; there’s nothing worse than a baby with the stomach bug.
Here’s hoping the worst has passed, and you are feeling better by the time you read this!

That Billy, he’s a good one. I hope you are feeling even better now.

So glad your mom could help and props to Billy for helping as well! Makes me miss my mom all the more. Glad you are on the mend.

(((hugs))). We had a run of stomach bugs here too – sucks!! i had one ‘mum’s don’t get sick days’ experience and had to ring DH (who has notoriously inflexible employers) and ask him to come home early cause I just couldn’t manage the Little Guy and stay connected to the bathroom! Big props to Billy and your mum!

drink and pee. drink and pee. that’s the only way to really get better and make sure you’re sufficiently hydrated since I imagine you’re nursing anyway. love to you all. I hope you’ll be the only one in the house to get it.

Oh please honey–take it easy for the next few days. I was laid out with the flu early on (which means you get the easy version compared to how bad the later version is). Eat a lot of things with garlic, drink a lot of tea and water, and when you need to, call in some favors for someone to give Thumper good lovin for the day. I swear, if you fight this one, you can be over it in a few days. If you don’t fight it, you’ll be stuck with ith for weeks.
I hope you feel better soon!

I love that utter connection between grandmother/mother/child and mingling of childhoods with their voices and actions. I love my father’s storytelling voice, and I love overhearing it when he tells Max stories. Mmmmmmm.
Get rest and be good,
xx

It’s so restorative to just laze around and know that someone else is taking care of stuff – well, except for breastfeeding the baby.

So the morning was bad but it’s not food poisoning and you’re thinking about making big changes and you don’t want to talk about what it’s not.
Hmm. I know where my mind immediately goes but it certainly didn’t seem like anyone else’s did which means I MUST be wrong.
But I thought you were trying to say you were pregnant again.
