Yes, well…life going on, as it tends to
Sad, shadowy spots all weekend, but progress marched ahead because really what else is there to do but move forward?
Yesterday a swarm of wonderful friends, including the divine Ms. Em descended. The living room, stairway, and upstairs hallway walls were a nasty dingy white when they arrived. When they left all the walls were a warm, glowing pale yellow. The place is utterly transformed. It actually looks like home now. Pictures tomorrow. At the moment I’m too tired.
One hundred pages to go in Volume III of Proust. You know what that means? I’ll finish Vol. III tonight and then I’m headlong into Sodom and Gomorrah (the rather tempting title of Vol. IV. I’m told the sordid heartbreak really gets started here and I can’t wait.).
Tonight I keep thinking of Sunday evenings in Madrid spent with friends in the Cafe Barbiere in Lavapies. Anyone know the place? (Serena, I know you do. Remember Christoph and his big leatherbound volume of Quijote open always to the same page?) Old warped mirrors everywhere, red velvet banquettes, chipped marble tables, good coffee. It’s been way too long. I think the boy and I need to plan a trip to Madrid.
You can’t beat friends who help you paint. 🙂
Maybe a Madrid honeymoon?

Doesn’t that sound excellent?
I had a blast painting, gabbing & noshing. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

Maybe I’ll plan an Italy trip then, too, and we’ll train to a midpoint and knit in a two-hundred year old cofe….

I think a Madrid honeymoon is the perfect idea! Can’t wait to see your new walls. Paint makes a world of difference! Now your new home will be eternally sunny!
